The last dealership that I worked at had a "sliding scale"... Basically they averaged ~$72/hour, and that was 3 years ago.

Almost everywhere in Northern california is above $65/hour. There might be a few shops around for $60-65/hour. I paid $72/hour to have a tranny seal replaced a couple weeks ago.

i have no idea what auto shops charge but i know best buy charges $60 an hour for troubleshooting a computer.
