If the card is clocked the same exact speed, what difference does it make? Its not like NV puts out official WHQL drivers for video card launches anyways.

Are you really claiming that if NV's next card was due to launch Oct. 28th, that you wouldnt want real reviews out Oct. 14th? Well, you might, because you dont buy highend...

Obviously, most people prefer it the way I do.

Agree with OP. I would very much prefer reviews before the launch. I don't understand why anyone would want #1.

For example, lets say the R600 will be released December 25th. Would you prefer reviews and card availability on the 25th December, as per option #1... or would you prefer reviews December 10th and card availability December 25th as per option #2?

I'd prefer earlier reviews, rather than later.

Exacltly my thoughts.

I like this poll.

It shows that the only people who dislike the preview launches are nVidiots, & they will magically change their opinion too when nVidia starts doing the same thing

Even though i found it a bit annoying how Intel did it, i liked that even in spring of this year, half a year before release, we already knew C2D was going to pwn A64 X2s.

The preview launch style is smart for the company doing it, & good for us, as we get to see if waiting for a new products is worth it or not.

I understand some of you are fanboys and must constantly brown nose but stop threadcrapping and spamming "paper launch" in every single damned thread. It's amazing that for people who are suppose to be intellegent some of you are such retards.

I don't see anyone constantly screaming "phantom hard launch" in every thread where nVidia is mentioned, please do us the courtesy and stop spamming "paper launch" every time ATI is mentioned. Especially since both ATI and nVidia sucks as far as video card launches go. The poll (for those who took part in it) showed that people are not opposed to how ATI launches their cards. It seems only the nVidiots keep screaming paper launch, paper launch, paper launch. If I hear any more "paper launch" accusations against ATI, I'm wondering if I should start posting "phantom hard launch with near zero availability for two months" every time an upcoming nVidia card is mentioned.

EDIT: I posted this here because I felt the issue was annoying and didn't want to start a new thread about it since we were already talking about paper launches, hard launches, and phantom launches. Btw, phantom launch seems like a great term to describe the 7900 and 7800GTX 512MB video card launches.

Stop thread crapping. The OP did not even mention any card or company.

I have seen too many "previews" not live up to their hype when actual retail cards are benchmarked after they become available.

As it has been said before... Video card prototypes are always made available early to select review sites and we get an idea of what the actual card can do. It's isn't always a exact replica, but a ball park will suffice more often then not.

In my case I am ready to buy a card now the cash is burning a hole in my pocket. If I end up waiting only to have problems buying the card later I will be INFURIATED at ATI. I have no loyalty to either brand, I have and will continue to use whatever it is that suits my needs at the time.

Option #1 is the only real way to do things. Even if you don't want to believe the reviews with the prototypes, you don't have to buy a video on the first day it is launched. You can always wait a week or two and see if it actually lives up to it's reputation. Let's not forget that many places offer a 15 or 30 day return policy.

Options #2 and #3 are just filled with 'smoke and mirrors'. Delays and excuses abound as to why the problems arose. As it has been said 'poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part'.

This thread isn't about NV vs. ATI... It's about availability and launch styles. A launch wthout availability sucks no matter what it's called. Personally, I like immediate availability over previews primarily because I don't like the "lame duck window" where my current card isn't worth jack on the resale market, but I still can't even replace it with something better. Plus, I feel that previews generate useless hype and debates becasue of discrepencies between the benchmark sites.

Haven't you guys noticed that most of the issues are only uncovered after the products go to retail..? Example: Why didn't any of the reviewers spot the AF shimmering with the 7-series...? Why is it that when I take a screenshot of ATI's AA items that have AA applied to them just start to fade away, and this is never mentioned on any review site?

I've gotten a decent amount of comments about my (somewhat excessive) video card purchases, and quite frankly the reason is because I don't just trust what I read, and I feel compelled to try them out for myself. From my experiences this past year, I can pretty much conclude that almost none of the review sites actually bench high end cards the way that I run them. They are always leaving some piece of the eye candy out.... My definition of "everything on high" means EVERYTHING ON HIGH including v-sync, and almost no sites bench with v-sync. 100fps means jack to me if there is tearing becasue it still looks like crap.

So, I say launch and make them available at the same time... Put your money where your mouth is, and put your cards in the hands of the users.

Wreckage, I turned off my filter after a couple of months of having it on in the hopes you had matured. Too much to hope for. It seems you are still a brown nosing fanboy and that you can't help but kiss nvidia's rear end.

It's extremely extremely funny you call someone else a troll when you are a self admitted troll. I will keep pointing this out any time you call someone else a troll. I don't have a link to the thread but you once stated on these forums that your purpose here was to p*ss off ATI fans/fanboys. You have constantly brought up issues you don't have proof to back up. You have on many occasions used out of context quotes to redicule others.

I will constantly point this out from now on in the hopes that we either get actual moderation in here or you report me to a moderator and they ban me. I really don't care if they do ban me because AT doesn't seem to care if their forums turn into a troll infested sewer.

QFT. That is exactly my reasoning in going from a 6600GT, 7800GT, 7800GT again (SLI), and X1900XTX. I saw reviews that benched my SLI against XTX's and was curious as to what the X1k series were doing. Other owners said that the card performed very well. They were right. I've seen the pros and cons to both sides first hand just like you. And I did so because I got tired of review sites missing things or not looking at what I wanted to look at, which was the maximum settings and playablity. Very well put nitro, stole the words out of my mouth.

Turn you filter back on and stop talking. In fact filter the whole board so no one has to hear your nonsense.

I have never called myself a troll, maybe you are just hoping there are more like you. I back my posts up with proof and people like you either ignore the proof or dismiss it. I don't care as you are so transparent that even the casual visitor here can see right through you.

Ban yourself and save the moderators the trouble. You added nothing to this topic, infact you did not even mention it, you just took it as another opportunity to derail a thread.

I find the results quite surprising. I was thinking the same thing, the early intel pre-reviews certainly held up a planned cpu upgrade for myself. May still buy amd, but prices are much reduced.

I'd like to have the card available the same day as the NDA lifts for the reviews and for supply to go up from there (and prices to go down). I'm sick of the paper launches or fake hard launches like the 512 7800 GTX where they released it the same day as the NDA lifted and then the card was never to be seen again after the initial shipment ran out.

I dislike the preview launch and I am not an nVidiot. I dislike it because I want the card here when they first said it would be. I didn't like the 7800gtx 512 release, or the x1800 release, or really the x800 because the price was different than what ATI said it would be. I want releases like the 7800gtx and 7800gt.

I didn't like how Intel did the C2D thing as it created a mass of fans that all wanted the chip even before it was out. Retailers took note of this and offered the chip even before they had stocks of it. This PR stunt of Intel has caused a big drop in availablitiy and thus a price increase. We all thought C2D was awsome because not only did it perform well Intel was going to price it extremely well. This all fell through when pricing went up due to the frenzy that Intel created several months in advance.

It sure is smart for the company doing it, but I don't buy that "Well I get to review so I know what to do before the card is here" you can review both the performance and the price if the card launches with availablity. You can only review performance if it launches without availablity. And IMO I need both the performance information and the price information before I will buy a card.

Option 1. Basically the sooner the better for everyone, since prices come down sooner, and the more cards in circulation, the more I know about them by the time I buy.

Crap, I agree with Joker. NVIDIA should have just called it a "Limited Edition" and been more up front in the number available. On a similar note, I really want a Intel E6600 and I keep seeing either "out of stock" or way above retail prices. Sigh, it could be November before I build my new system.

And I agree with you as well as Joker, and nitro, etc. I would like cards to be present on retail shelves as soon as the benchmarks for them are. The choice to wait and see what the benches bring before buying should always be a choice, not a requirement that we have to deal with because of a company's inability to provide the product when they originally said they would provide it.

Well keysplayr, I'm sure you'll agree we're all human and sometimes we get excited and say or type the wrong things out. I do try to be mature about things and I try to look at things from all sides, however, asshats like Wreckage simply ruin these forums. I don't mind different points of views and sometimes we all have to agree to disagree. I just wish the moderators would come in and clean this place up a bit.

I basically turned off my filters and saw some of his responses weren't half bad and I actually do think Wreckage as well as Crusader has valid points. It's just the idiotic crap he pulls all the time makes following these forums more trouble than it's worth at times. I'm not saying I'm a pillar of the AT forums nor am I saying I'm "elite" but if these things keep on, and if more and more people are turned off by the absolute crap that goes on in here then AT is going to be dead one day.

I am basically fed up with the idiots on these forums and I'm actively looking to get myself banned.

Wreckage you are a dumb F*cking a$$hole. Please report it to the moderators. Yes, I'm actively looking to get banned because these forums have been in a long decline. I don't think I have ever seen someone take video cards so personally. It's sad that you have to resort to such immature and empty responses, when you could just simply go away. It's clear from your above statements that you won't be missed and the forums will be just fine if not better without you.

I won't report you as I can't possibly take offense to anything said on a computer forum. They are just parts to me, not anything to get upset over. AMD may well can ATI and Intel do the same with NVIDIA and yet my life won't change one tiny bit.

So if you can't tolerate a discussion and don't have the intellect to discuss it in a rational manner without the childish insults......sucks to be you.

Do you really need the parenting of a ban sticker? If you don't like the forum or posters, don't post.
Wreckage you are a dumb F*cking a$$hole.
If you're waiting for a ban, why use substitues? Sorry, just thought I'd ask.
Please report it to the moderators.
You could always turn yourself in, like Kevin Spacey in Seven
Yes, I'm actively looking to get banned because these forums have been in a long decline.
So you want the forums to help you by not letting you post in them? Get a grip akugami.

The "truth" is that Wreckage likes Nvidia but isn't about to sell his house for their products. Eveyone has preferences and his is different from yours. I myself disagree with Wreckage many times and also agree that Anandtech could be better. I do tend to enjoy the diversity here though and like to hear many sides and look at as many angles as I can. Having someone who views things completely different than you can have it's benefits.

As much as Wreckage and I may disagree, we also know how and when to agree. If you are constantly holding views that are antagonistic to Wreckage's, why not filter him again instead of call him names and further help derail a thread. Carrying on about how much of a troll someone is can be classified as trolling as well.

QFT. I myself don't understand why people do take things so seriously. Entertainment is one thing, but to get to an emotionally unstable point where all you do is spout curse words (and censored ones at that) is absurd.

I'm not taking the high road, it's just that you are on a very low road looking up at me.
