<< i can't stand people that drive the speed limit in the left lane >>

I hate people like this.. yes, sometimes the speed limit is too slow, but look at the word: speed LIMIT. LIMIT. What is a LIMIT? The maximum. The left lane is the fast lane, for people going the MAXIMUM. The LIMIT. There you go. I have every right to drive the speed limit in the left lane.

I hate drivers in general.:|

There are 2 different types of good drivers......

there is the A. Driver who is good because they actually have car handling skills and can race a car if they wanted to
and there is B. Driver who is good because they never break the law and have had no infractions or tickets..

I am more of A. I am not a wreckless driver, but I like to drive fast, I've gotten 4 tickets and been pulled over a few times more.. that would make me a bad driver to some, but actually being able to handle the car, and knowing it's limits, I like to think I am pretty good. Never been in an accident.

Thinking everybody else sucks is the right way to drive.

Explanation: When you consider everybody else being an idiot You'll keep your distance, you don't take right of way you don't overtake with ridiculous speed differnces etc.

/edit: I'm a better driver than a typist

Actually no they don't have the right to drive in the left lane under normal circumstances. In most states the left lane is for passing only.
Granted very few if any police enforce this but it is against the law and you can be ticketed for travelling in the left lane.

i'm a NYC (Manhattan) kind of driver...pretty aggressive and defensive at the same time, not as aggressive as those taxis tho...
but i'm currently more defensive lately because i've noticed in TX and SLC there seems to be more drivers that don't signal
at all and just cut into lanes... :|...i'm used to that in Manhattan, but didn't expect it much in TX or SLC, so that took me by surprise at first...at least they're not as aggressive as Manhattan drivers....

I'm an aggressive driver but I hardly go over 80 miles an hour. I can't stand those people who leave 5 car spaces in front of them during rush hour so I do occasionally cut these people off. I think they should teach people how to drive better at those driving schools. What would help would be to teach people to actually use those wonderful side mirrors and look ahead at traffic. If there is a flood of red lights coming up then BRAKE PEOPLE, its that simple.

Dave Barry summed this up better than I ever could:

"The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers." :D
--From Dave Barry's Dave Barry turns 50.

I really wish that driving wasn't such a big deal. But when I'm behind the wheel going anywhere on the highway, I go into this mode where I can't let anyone get 'there' faster than me. My 45-minute drives to my gf's place turn into a self-conscious race where I have to believe that I am the first one there, and no other cars have passed me. One success leads to another challenge the next time I get behind the wheel...

WTF is wrong here... they need to make all cars equal with a top speed of 55mph to save me from my own insanity. I'm a good aggressive driver... nobody ever honks at me... I always signal even if I do 80 changing lanes on a narrow highway driving with one hand placed at 6 or 9 o'clock... it sucks... who put the idea into my head that driving is racing?

Bring on Segway.

Laws like a speed limit are to protect people from themselves. I view them as recomendations and drive accordingly. Now I am not stupid enough to drive 80 miles an hour down the 5 freeway in LA during the evening. That would be very very bad. But I will go as fast as I can considering the conditions, usually this is about 75-80. And for those Asian women out there that prefer to drive 55 in the left hand lane you need to get your head out of your rice poopin arse. Honestly, that is for your own safety. Us So Cal drivers tend to drive fast and when you are in our way bad things happen. As the Dept. of Trans. and AAA have proven many times before, the problem isn't the actual speed its when there is a great difference in speed between different vehicles. If people would learn to drive at the speed that all of the other traffic is going and to pay attention I bet you that accidents will go down. 80 and 55 don't go together. If you can't keep up, get out of the fricking way or prepare to get the finger, cut off, honked at and have stuff thrown at your car.

I've had 6 speeding tickets, 2 accidents (my fault), and other nonmoving violations. I've also had my license suspended for 3 months and I've been to jail.

I do not consider myself a bad driver. In fact, most of my friends would tell you that I'm a good driver. I drive agressively when I know I have to be somewhere. I know what the left lane is for. I don't tailgate people unless they're doing 35 in the left lane when the speed limit is 40.

IMO, I can handle any given car better than about 75% of the population. My above accidents were the result of bad weather conditions. (ice and VERY heavy rain). Every single speeding ticket I've gotten except for one was when I was alone on the road by myself.

You can't define how good a driver someone is until you see how they handle their car. Tickets and accidents are moot IMO.

I pretty much suck as a driver. Can only drive trucks and tractors somewhat decently, damn clumsy with usual cars...

Laws are created as recommendations? WTF? I go 75-80 myself, but that speech you just gave needs some reconsideration. You sound like you think you have every right to go 75-80 and anyone going 55 is causing the great 'difference' and hence they're causing the accidents. Maybe those of us who create the real difference in speed should stop complaining about law-abiding drivers since everyone should be following these laws in the first place. How's that for a recommendation? And what's with picking on asian women? Rice poopin? You have real problems...

Question... do you think that traffic violations & accidents are a good measure of driver skill?

Ask Aryton Senna that question...
Personally, I know my limits... I definitely need more car control classes and practice on a course with the new (unraced) car...

No one can catch my tail light on interstate 5. That was what I thought three years ago. Now I'm a defensive driver on the highway and always obey the speed limit. The only time that I will go wild is when I'm on mountain at night..... Then I usually twice of the speed limit for those underrated sharp coners.

I have put in almost a million miles now (I was a Regional Supervisor who drove between sites, and now I work for a couple of companies as a route tech), have been in four accidents, one of them major and none of them my fault. Have never been convicted (emphasis on convicted) of speeding.

I honestly don't think you can define "good driver" anymore. Even people who have never been in an accident may have caused a few...that just makes them lucky, not good.

I do not drive aggresivly towards other drivers. I don't make people "pay," I don't cut people off, if I have to miss my exit, so be it. But I drive 85 to 90 on the freeway because my reflexes are good, I know the limits of my car (and specificly, it's braking abilities), and I do nothing but drive. I don't talk, I don't use my phone, I don't sing along to the radio, I don't drive with my penis as my guide. I know what cornering speeds and approaches produce what reactions in every car I drive. I can handle unexpected slick roads, understeer, oversteer, and trail braking at 110% grip. I can heel-and-toe. I can shift in around a 1/4 second, up and down. I know when to use my high-beams, and when to turn them off. I can start from a stop on a steep hill without rolling back more than 6 inches (no hand-brake crap for me).

I am good judge of distance, speed, and of conditions and my car's abilites in them. So I do things other people would not do, like turn across traffic if I know I can make it by laying a little rubber. I drive 90 MPH on the freeway, but I don't pass on the right, don't tailgate (count three seconds between the car and me), and use my brights to signal other drivers that they need to get out of the way. I do my best to contain my emotions while I drive. I give older asians and indians extra room because they are likely first-generation immigrants and did not learn to drive while young. Younger minorities of course, can drive as well as anyone.

I have no fear of the freeway, high speeds, cliffs, sharp corners, heavy traffic. I DO fear other drivers, and I figure a wide berth into my driving decisions. If I can't compensate for some other driver's crappy driving, I won't put my car in that space.

Cutting someone off and expecting them to brake (defensively) is one of the stupidest things you can possibly do. NEVER assume the other driver is even paying attention to the road.

That said, I've been in three accidents. One time an old Indian (if you live in the Bay Area, you know what I'm talking about) man in a Cadillac make an unprotected left turn right in front of me as I went through an intersection. He nailed the of my car and still claimed (in Farsi, of course) that I was at fault. Second time, some asshole cut behind me as I backed up in a parking lot, and I smashed the side of his riced Civic. Technically, that was my fault, since I ran into him, but it was one of those things. Last time, I rear-ended an old Asian man who cut in front of me in the fast lane at 75 MPH then promptly stood on his brakes when he got scared. I had room for the car in front of me, but not for this guy (another reason not to cut people off, folks). I hit him going about 2 MPH faster than him, and my license plate scratched his painted bumper.

One speeding ticket. 56 in a 40. I was the only car on the road.

Yes, but the signs also say "SLOWER DRIVERS KEEP RIGHT." So you are breaking the law if you don't move over.
