Personally, I use a large dual-mode cooler that primarily uses convection at low loads, and kicks in a second-stage evaporative mode when necessary. It's about 33 years old, but it came stock with the system and still seems to be working pretty well. Gotta add more coolant several times a day, though :p

As for my computers, they use an Alpha PAL8045 (on my 2500+) and a stock 2500+ cooler (on my 1600+ Paly, soon to be switched to an SK-7). Oh, and my 1GHz Duron uses a GC-68.

TT Volcano 9 modded. I am not impressed with it though. It doesn't cool as well as I thought it would. I'm running a Barton 2500 and temps below 45 C are hard to come by or make the box sound like an aircraft. I'm looking to get the SLK 900a soon.

I just switched all my TT fans with Panaflo 1as and that made a difference. I goofed and bought the vantec stealth 470 PSU that I thought was gonna be quiet...oops!! What's 50 db between friends, right? I'll be selling that in a month and trying to get something quieter.

My goal is to have a box that I can leave running all night without disturbing my sleep. I'll get there soon....

SLK900-A w/92mm tornado connected to a sunbeam fan controller. Usually run it at around 2600, which is quiet. Though I have a silent boost on now for temp testing. But, the slk900a is me main man. :)

2nd system currently has the volcano 12. Usually runs at a quiet 33-3500rpm.
