I live in town of 1500 on a good day. Thats small. No cable, lucky to have DSL. Excuse me while I make a trip to the outhouse.

rural, the town I live in has a population of about 3000, and therer are maybe 20 houses on my street, which is almost 2 miles long. 50% of the area around here is farms.

I have a nice house in a historic area of Tulsa, OK; it's in the city.
I have an apartment in Cleveland, OH in the middle of downtown.
I have an apartment in Alpharetta, GA (north of Atlanta) in a nice area; it's in the city too, but not like living downtown.

I don't care for inner-city living to be quite honest, no matter how nice the apartment/condo/whatever. I prefer open skies, distant views, and a little peace and quiet; I'd rather hear birds than people. My house in Tulsa offers this.

Rural Towns with 10K+ people, where I grew up there wasn't a town within 200 mi that has over 20K. My home town ie town closest to my house (5 mi away) had 60 people. The Town I went to school (17 mi away) had 1800 on a good day. I now live in a town w/ about 45,000 people...and to me that is pretty big
