Poll: what is the OS on your primary PC?

Windows XP Home (soon to be Pro).

What would work better in an HTPC, W2K or XP Home?

It will only be used as a PVR and DVD ripping, that's it.

Who voted for Win 3.1?

:Q

I did. Still too many bugs in the newer windows versions I'm sticking with 3.1 till they fix them. Note: I wasn't the one that voted for it.

I've got Win2K pro on my main machine and I had to "upgrade" my secondary/video machine to XP pro a few months back because some of the software I use *only* supports XP pro. I still haven't found anything at all to like about XP over 2K. As far as I can tell, all Microsoft did was to study what people found annoying in their other operating systems and tried to collect and enhance everything irritating about an OS into one.

I guess XP is okay for someone who wants software to hold their hand...and refuse to let go of it.

dont forget that 3.1 is pratically immune to all these NT worms that are going about.

2k for me as well. Been on this machine for 2.5 years now. It's run rock solid and smooth. No real reason to upgrade to XP at the moment.

The *only* thing that I miss about not having XP on here is the ability to "send to CDROM" for on the fly burning like XP has, plus the handy power tool you can download to automatically resize pics with a right click on them.

Besides those though, I think 2k is more stable and runs faster.
