Although I live in the UK and money is a bit different, I would say in terms of US$, preferably under $150 and up to $200 at a push. It would have to be justified though to do that.

For high end, I'd try to find a ti4200 128mg for $150 and oc it toward 4600 specs.
When the 9700 hits the streets it shouldnt be too hard to find. The ti4200 probably won't be considered "high end" anymore but oh well.

For low end I'd look for a ti200 for under $75. Its a great card that oc's well and is still the bang for the buck champ IMO.
I got my ti200 for $120 a while ago and it was at the time a good deal. It oc's very well too.

If I could pick up a barebones 9700 for for under $330, I'd get one. $400 for features I can't use yet is too much. Good for benchmarks and impressing your friends but I want DVD quality video, triple monitor support and a remote ;) for $400.

I'll bet you anything that the first day on the shelf for the AIW-9700 Pro will be $599 Cdn + Tax. That's what I'm aiming for.

I'm spending $400 on the Radeon 9700 whenever it comes out. Previous highest was $300 on a voodoo5.

Less than $150 because I play games. If no games, I'd spend less.

under $300.

I was able to get my Geforce 4 4600 for that so I bought it. had it been more than $300 I would have passed on it.

I'm usually pretty sporatic when it comes to vc purchases. I've had cards when they first come out and have paid rediculous prices, other times my urge drops off and I can live off of a $15-$30 vc like a Riva128 or my latest budget gamer, the Voodoo5.

Also depends on what other components I have in the system at that very moment. If I know I'll be needing funds soon and end up ridding of stuff, then I'll be more likely to stick with something very lowend. But when I'm in the process of upgrading, I'll be more willing to spend a bit more on a vc I like.

Most ever spent on a vc was $460Cdn. Most I will ever spend is prolly $600Cdn max, but $300-$350Cdn is a more realistic figure.

My GeForce4 cost me £290 ($406), I wouldn't/couldn't pay much more than that.

Spent $220 for my Ti4400. Before that was an original GF2mx (how much did they go for? probably paid $100). So hopefully I can hold off for a while for my next upgrade and spend $150-250. If I upgrade before xmas '03, it'll have to be on the high side to be worthwhile. If I can wait til '04, maybe $150 will get me an NV30 or better...

Aside from what has come bundled with pre-built machines I've bought over the years, I haven't spent more than $75 on a video card. It's too hard to keep up so I just buy what will run the games I want to play now.

$150 is the most that I would spend on a video card, unless it was a gift for someone else.

I'm with -> RobsTV

$100 is the swizeet spizot (as the kids say). Though I have been content with $0, $30 and $50 as I recall. It seems one has had to spend close to $100 for the latest 3D gaming for awhile now.
