After $100 the best bang for $ turns into a whimper.
For $100 you can stay fairly close to state of the art, only you will be one card behind.
For example, GF3 Ti500 at around $100 handles everything "nearly as well" as a $400 card.
CPU falls into same idea. A $60 XP1600+ clocked to XP2100++ runs nearly as well as a $250 CPU.

But to see how much I would spend, you'll need to look at the poll results posted above.

Well, me, being a jobless 16 year old HS student, I try to go for the best deal I could get.

Example, I was looking at a Radeon7500, for about $60, saw a GF2Ti, for $50, was about to pick that up, and decided to hold off, and get myself a DX8 Capable card for a little more.

I saw both a Ti200 and R8500 for $100, so I decided I wanted the R8500, so while saving up, I found a Deal on a Ti200, I got it for $69 shipped, and thats how much I paid for it, and its a great card! Overclocks very well....

I pretty much try to get the best performance to price ratio... So depending on the card, that'll be my price range... I wouldn't like to spend more than $200.

with the 6 month release cycles of the video card industry, I'll probably only spend $150 max on a video card. The most I've ever spent was about 2 years ago for the Radeon for $160 or so. But in the past few days, I think I'm starting to lower my max amount of money on a video card....it's probably down to $130 or so now.

$200......the only 2 cards i've bought where $200 and i think that at any given time, whatever card is floating around that pricepoint is damn good. That price usually represents a somewhat high end card and usually far from a budget model.

The maximum amount of money I would spend on a video card is $70 bucks. I don't play many games but I would pay extra for Vivo features.

I'm also one of those people with a limited budget and look for video cards with a good performance/price ratio... About 5 months ago I jumped on a hot deal and got a GF3 Ti200 for $70 and have been very pleased with it.

My range is from $50 to $100.

But if I had more money to spend I would perhaps go up to $200.

$400.

The NV30 with its' $500 estimated price tag is probably out of reach from even my gaming budget.

Around $400.

If the Parhelia offered Ti4600 class performance or close, I'd probabaly pick one up, since I want good 2D as well, but as it stands now, there just aren't any cards that I'd considder worth that much.

An R9700 might be something for me, but with ATi's traditionally high pricing iaround here, I'll probabaly pass on it.
Maybe NV30 will bring top notch 2D to nVidia cards, if it does, I might just pick one up.

Unless there's a flaming hot can't-pass-it-up hot deal on a video card, my limit is $150. I usually purchase cards that are 2 or 3 tiers below the flagship product. It's mostly because the feature sets in each new generation won't be used by games for at least 6-12 months. Take pixel shaders for example -- they've been there since the original GeForce3, but only now are games like Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights starting to use them.

i spent 300 on my voodoo5 hahahahahaha
never go that high again
vid cards just depreciate in value too quick
i think i spent like 190 on my gf2 gts 32mb (good deal till i broke it)
like 90 on my rage128 16mb when i first got it
hmmm
my next system i might spend like 100 to 250 but prob no more
cause within a few months you can get those 400 dollar cards or a version of them for like 200 or less anyways

I'd only spend 200. Generally, you can get the second best cards for $200 while the best cards cost $300-$400. Take the ti4400 for example. It's a great card, which you can find online today for around $200. But it's not necessarily the most bang for the buck right now, like Radeon 8500le's are.

I stay behind, I just got my Radeon 8500 275/275 for under a hundred bucks NEW!

I am not spending 300 or 400 bucks on a card that in six months will be half price or less, I do not have to have it today ;)
