Creed is wuss rock, not heavy metal ;)

I for one have good taste in music, and fsck anyone who says differently. Most people who bother to read my posts can pretty much figure out I have an unhealthy obsession with the Smashing Pumpkins, but I like a lot other music too. Maybe if you'd list what kinds of music you'd like and what bands are your favorite we could decide who has the bad taste in music here.

IMO good music means something, its not just like a lot of the meaningless crap that out there. The lyrics have a point to them, a lot of my favorite songs could probably also be poems. Pop music now is just the same pointless crap over and over to a god awful earsplitting beat, I don't know how people can stand it.

What is your favorite Smashing Punkins album?

Jimmy Chamberlain is the man!

P.S. - Some people might consider the Smashing Pumpkins 'wuss rock'.

Konichiwa, you got the right idea ;)

I know that Creed isn't heavy. I just kinda mentioned a mix and match of what I listen to.

I think my favorite classical composer is Mozart. Other than that I don't really have other favorites, pretty much anything will work depending on mood.

Any other stereotypes because I listen to metal?

rotflmao at this thread!

I am *gasp* almost 33 years old and I like a little bit of everything.

My mother plays the piano (so do I) and turned me on to Bach, Beethoven, and jitterbug-type music (she can jam!).

My big brother (who is 42) turned me on to The Clash, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles.

My oldest sister She's almost 40) turned me on to Earth Wind and Fire, the Ohio Players, and ELO.

My other sister (she's 36) turned me on to Jethro Tull, SuperTramp, George Benson, and smooth jazzy things.

My husband only listened to Christian music before I came in and tempted him with such irresistable bands like Yes and U2... but he turned me on to DCTalk and Susan Ashton, just to name a few.

In fact, my whole life seems to be a tapestry of music people have opened my ears to. I hope it never ends. Right now, I think Moby is pretty dang nifty... I'm even developing a taste for the Smashing Pumpkins.

The key is to be open to listening and learning...

ScienceFiction: No offense meant, but what makes you think you can judge others tastes in music? There is no absolute factor when it comes to music, or any art, until some jerk decides to compare everyone else's tastes against his own, which are, of course, infallable.
Seems like all your doing is justifying your own stereotypes and misconceptions, and doing it in an elitist (and fruity) way. Please explain your system. Is it weighted? You asked toolgirl what kind of metal she listens to; does she get extra points if she mentions Cannibal Corpse? Minus one for Life of Agony? Bonus Points for GWAR?

Deicide,

I'm not judging anybody. I could care less what people listen to. Instead what I think is interesting is how they listen and why they listen. As far as any theory I have, Urban Techie put it best...

<< I listen to anything that sounds good to me. >>

That should be the only reasoning people use when it comes to what they listen to. However, I think people subjugate their own tastes to the will of the masses or even their own peers.

As far as some criteria for what is good or bad, you're right, it is all subjective like I said in my original post. If I am judging anything, it is what [b[I[/b] like or dislike. I was really just trying to get people talking.

As far as my theory that the music people listen to says something about them, all I meant is that people's tastes in anything say something about how they experience life. And as much as our own taste coincide or differ from others, can only say whether we are similiar or different. Which you prefer, is up to you.

As far as bewing mildly elitist, I'll admit it. It is not always bad. I believe strongly in the things that I feel and believe and like. And I would hope that others would too. I would rather you disagree and feel strongly about it, than to not care.

So I don't have a ratings system, nor do I dislike Toolgirl for listening to metal. I was just trying to get her(is it a boy or girl) to think and communicate clearer about the things s/he likes so that I could get a better idea of the kind of person s/he is.

I listen to it because I like it. Because I can connect to it.

<< I know taste is a subjective thing, but I find that the music people listen to says a lot about the kind of person they are >>

I'd really be interested in hearing what you think about me. What kind of person do YOU think I am? I want to know how many things you'd actually be right about.
