All it takes is one earthquake somewhere along it and that hw is screwed, especially if its in the middle of the ocean.

Hilariously stupid. Nobody is going to drive 4000 miles through canada, alaska, and that crappy part of russia next to alaska. Plus, have to drive all the way around Africa to get from Asia to Europe?

I'd go for it if it was an underwater highway (atlantic, pacific, etc).

How many people really need to get from Siberia to Alaska? I mean, the chunnel is a LOT shorter, and I bet there's just a few more people going back and forth between Londan and Paris than there are going from Bunfvck, Nowhere, Russia to Bumfvck, Nowhere, Alaska, and the chunnel was still a hell of a challenge to build.

I agree, plus who are they going to find to work at a gas station in the middle of BFE and how much will the gas cost in those remote locations?

And who is going to police this highway? And maintain it? And what about differing speed limits, vehicle requirements, drivers licenses, etc? Terrible idea.

Some they are going to connect a part of Russia that's barely inhabitied with a part of Alaska that is barely inhabited and expect people to actually use it:confused:

No thanks, I'll fly and save a few days driving.

Terrible idea. The logistics of building & maintaining it are mind-boggling. The need is nonexistent.

I think a global train is better but more direct routes. They should use the super fast trains that go 500km/h.

Earth would surely have it's ways over it. Earthquakes, what about a massive sea-storm? how are they going to mount this thing under the water, there could be sinking problems. gas is a problem as said before, so is policing it. it would be very cool if such conditions didn't actually exist that could threaten the life of the road, But it's very impractical, and we will probably never get around all the problems that could happen.

I saw thw documentary on the Gibraltar bridge yesterday night on the Discovery channel and I was floored. It is an amazing concept. And as a Civil Engineer, I enjoyed watching it.

BUT

I think the bridge isn't worth it. Too expensive/too complex, and it lacks any emergency escape routes for travellers on the bridge, among other things. I am still looking into other parts of the global highway.

Yeah, I was the Gibraltar bridge thing. It was pretty neat.
