POLL: What are the odds of society as we know it totally collapsing?

I've always wondered if there will come a time when people will rebel against the goverment and law enforcement on a worldwide scale. Its kind of frightening to think about because realistically if such a thing ever occured there are'nt enough armed forces to police a global mob. Of course it would likely take some type of monumental event to force people to cast off the shackles of civil behavior, but if that ever happens no one would be safe. Of course this is all just speculation, but it makes for some interesting conversation.

I was recently thinking about this because its interesting to see how outraged people get over minor things. For example the Janet Jackson performance sent people over the edge, it really amazes me that people would get so bent out of shape over something they see practically on a daily basis in newspapers, magazines and even toothpaste commercials. Scantily clad women are everywhere, but people went nuts over that superbowl performance.

Then look at the reaction to gay marriages, I think its safe to say that the people who are opposed to it are more than likely not gay. So why would people get so worked up and pissed over somethng that really does'nt affect them. So obviously if people can get so worked up over little things imagine what could happen if real issues start occuring.

Unlikely. You're talking about anarchism and all but the most drugged up crack heads realize that nobody wins in anarchism. If the government collapsed you'd soon find small groups of like-minded or like-goaled people joining together, electing leaders, and eventually policing themselves. Then you have "government" automatically creating itself again. Humans naturally tend towards a hierarchical order, and it works well.

I defy you to name a single successful group of individuals who lack some sort of a balance of power and order within them. Every single society, from nations, to little tribes in the jungle...they all have it.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

The people in P&N are absoltutely bonkers. A lot of them (when I ventured there once and made a poll) thought that Bush orchestrated 9/11. A shocking number actually believed it.

You are full of sh!t. Maybe two of the most excitable wankers might have thought that but the vast majority didn't.

How you can say I'm full of sh!t without having actually seen the poll yourself is beyond me. You know what they say about ASSumptions.

I lie. It wasn't my poll, since I made one on OT to mimic the other one, to see if the results would be different. Here is the one in P&N Link Reddawn = PWNED :p

Brooks Buddy, that poll originally started here at ATOT and was moved to P&N!

I'm not saying that society won't eventually rebuild itself but what I'm questioning is a breakdown of the current goverments in place.

OK then, lots of people on OT are bonkers! But, I did see that poll on P&N and replicate it exactly on OT (though I can't find it), and less were of the extremist position.

Well it's _inevitable_ that all governments will fail at some period. Hopefully for most it won't be through violence, although most of the governments in this world deserve nothing better.
