What age will you want to (not be able to) retire? IN other words, at what age to you think you will want to stop working all together regardless of having the means to do so.

I never wanted to work in the first place but sometimes life just doesn't go as planned.

I don't think any of us would have started working if we had the means to live otherwise.

If you are no longer focused on income, you can apply yourself to something you really enjoy (which is what we should all be doing anyway). This may overlap with a job of some form or fashion...

I would like to become independantly wealthy before I turn 25. That way, I can find a career that I really enjoy, which may not pay well, and do that for the rest of my life.

I'm 30 and I'm pretty confident that I'll be retired in the next 2-3 years tops, I consider myself pretty damn lucky since I know a lot of people who are in their 50s and 60s (in my company) and are still humping everyday.

I voted for less than 20. But since I'm 24 and I'm talking with an investment firm of what to do with a mutual fund that dropped 90% over the last year (it's term is up) that isn't going to happen.

Thats not a proper usage of humping.

25-35 would be sweet. But I won't retire unless I have a shiteload of extra $, otherwise there'll be no point, cause I'll be doing nothing all the time. I want to be able to do stuff when I retire, that's the whole point IMO. NO point in retiring and sitting at home on my ass doing nothing every day...

Will I be able to get Social Security benefits that I'm paying for now if I retire at 60 instead of 64? Damn bastards...

You forgot "when I'm dead."

I can see slowing down at some point, but for "retirement" I'd probably just switch to other software projects like helping out on FLAC (version 20 by then :) ), getting back into game programming, or doing volunteer work for nonprofits.

If everything works out, I'll be retired by 55 with no bills and house paid off.

I will be recieving retirement pay from the VA and Boeing along with my 401K distributions.
