I'm white and was spanked, often with a belt. That was the only way for my parents to get through to me that they were serious. Timeouts and crap like that didn't phase me. My mom kept a whiffle bat in the car because she couldn't reach us by hand when we were in the back seat of the massive Ford LTD wagon. Usually we thought it was funny that she waved that thing around at us, but laughing at her just ended up with spanking from dad when we got home.

My daughter on the other hand doesn't get spanked. She doesn't need to. She's always well behaved and never threw tantrums, she's just naturally quiet. Even now at age 8, even when she does get defiant and refuse to do what she's told all it takes is a stern talking to and she's practically in tears. Every kid is different, trying to say all kids should or should not be spanked is ridiculous.

just curious--what's with the white asian or other? there's no blacks or hispanics on atot?

as for me i'm nigerian (???) and was spanked till i was 10/11 but the threat of them tearing me a new one continues to this day (almost 30)
