Poll: Was the extra few hundred dollars for your T40 worth it?

I have absoulutely no regrets in spending ~$350 extra in getting a T40 rather than a Dell or Compaq.

I think when comparing prices, people need to realize a few things. T40 comes with XP PRO not Home edition. The 3 year warranty is STANDARD. WHen these are calculated into prices of other competitors, the prices are not so far apart.

In additon. The DESIGN, WEIGHT, and the Ruggeness are more than worth the extra dollars.

What do you T40 owners think? Would you be tempted in buying another notebook instead of the T40? I would be if the new Aluminum 15" powerbook comes out🙂

I spent $100 more for a T40 than I did for the Latitude D600 I returned.

The T40 I got was slower than the D600:
- 1.3 GHz instead of 1.4 GHz
- Radeon 7500 instead of Radeon 9000
- 30 GB 4200 RPM drive instead of 40 GB 5400 RPM drive

However
+ T40 is much lighter than D600
+ Build quality and keyboard are far superior
+ Came with Windows XP Pro instead of Home
+ Better tech support

Ease of use and sturdiness outweighed the slight decrease in component speed.

Hehe, oddly enough, me.

To be honest, I'm not sure I deserve a T40P. I'm just a college student, facing his last year, and thinking that I should start saving up for those damned pesky loans. It's a nice machine, but $3k's a nice sum. Anyway, if I would do it all over again, I would probably just order a Gateway 200XL and not enjoy things as nice so I can save up more.

Don't get me wrong - the machine's nice! Just I'm realizing that I probably can't get a job when I get out.

Spooky do you find in any way that the 1.3 PM is a little slow for everyday use? I keep considering the 58U but keep wondering if i am spending too much on a soon to be obsoleted processor and will regret it.

For everyday use my goes between 2-20% @ 600mhz. 50-80% @ 600mhz for divx/dvd playing. Unless your everday use consists of heavy gaming, 3d rendering, or video editing, 1.3 shouldn't be slow.

The 1.3GHz P-M is the equivalent of a 2.0GHz P4-M due to archictecture upgrades (noteably the 1MB cache).

The difference for me was about $100-$200 vs. D600 and I have no regrets.

Unless your "everyday use" consists of scientific number crunching that requires the absolute fastest thing, I think the 1.30 GHz Pentium-M is more than adequate for most people 🙂

The 1.30 GHz Pentium-M performs at least as good as a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4-M, and sometimes much better.
