It could easily snowball to encompass all the middle east.

Then oh Phooey!

Then China.
Then Russia.

I wouldn't want another war with the middle east. Imagine the soldiers, having to deal with the damn heat and desert and those pesky and scarey Camel Spiders! SCARY!

I hope they can solve it without war, but honestly I think a big fat war is the only solution to clean up that mess once and for all...
Don't get me wrong, I mean the mess on both sides - I favourize no one, neither Israelis nor Palestinians. Politics are good but somtimes you just have to make it out... :(

What a time to have a Bozo like Bush in charge of things here. At least Clinton was able to get them to talk instead of kill each other.

Israeli society has already been disrupted. Can anyone here imagine trying to raise a family in Israel? Or go to any public place like a pizza joint or restaurant? I see helecopter evacuations on top of the American Embassy as Israel is over run by invaders. :Q

Hmm, basicly the Israelis invaded Arabian ground...

Edit: But anyway this whole topic is just to complicated to pass fair judgement from outside...

I'd say that some kind of war is extremely unlikely. I mean exactly whom is going to invade Israel? None of their neighbors have a worthwhile army and Israel isn't going to risk all the aid and public support it gets from us to invade anybody else (except maybe Palestinian places). I just don't see it happening.

Oh don't worry so much people... The Israelis are more than capable of handling a Middle East war by their lonesome. Noone is going to enter the war on the side of the Arabs except other Arab states... and not even the combined might of the Arab states can handle the Israeli military machine.

There won't be an actual war, the Arabs aren't up to it and they know it, and the Palestinians don't have any real means of self defense. You will see a lot more of what the press calls "terrorism", and it will spread beyond Israel's borders. As I recall the term "terrorism" became popular in the 70s when there were a lot of groups like the Red Army Faction (I can't remember any other names) who blew up a lot of bombs but didn't really seem to have any coherent cause. The Palestinians, I think, were originally branded as terrorists at the 1972 Munich Olympics, when a bunch of them kidnapped and murdered about a dozen Israeli athletes. Before that I don't think anyone even knew who they were.

Terrorism to me is a pretty subjective term. I wouldn't call the Palestinians terrorists. You fight with the tools you have. If you play by the other guy's rules you lose.

Israel would have one hell of a battle if they went up against Egypt, Saudi Arabia (if the conflict enter the Sanai, SA certainly would become involved) Iraq, Jordan, and Syria. Lebanon isnt any threat to Israel, and Jordon isnt much of a threat either. Syria and Egypt certainly are.

I don't think there are any actual people in Saudi Arabia, just a couple dozen sheiks and some slaves. Maybe things have changed in the past 30 years, but I would be willing to bet the Jordanian, Egyptian and Syrian armies are still a bunch of bozos. Maybe I'm a lot older (41) than the rest of you, but does anybody remember how tough the Iraqis were supposed to be, and what losers they were? Of course, Israel is a lot different now than it was in 1972. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they've gone soft, at least to a degree. Hiding in tanks and F16s is one thing, but actual combat is something else.

One thing about Saudi Arabia, though. If the House of Saud (or whatever the Saudi ruling family is called) is overthrown, all bets on any of this stuff are off.

You know, I told myself I wasn't going to do one of these threads today.

Israel is a nuclear power though, should they decide to nuke Egypt and Syria (can't see it happening, but you never know) they wouldn't be able to do much.

Hi Max. Didn't we just do this?

Yeah, but what were they like in 1972? That's pretty hard to measure up to.

Saudi Arabia has a higher population than Syria and and a much higher population than Jordan, and a formidable arsenal.

Israel would never use nuclear weapons. That would open up hell on earth if they did

And yeah I think they're still as tough as they were in 1972... only now they have cooler weapons;)

I think its time for a good religious war. Nothing like a religious war to arouse population morale. Everyone there is aching for it anyway...sure they say they want peace, but only if they get their own way. Religion has a tendency to make a person very stubborn.

The middle east will only calm the hell down when one of the sides dies or is too weak to resist.
