did it surprise ? no. sensed after kay's oct 2003 initial report no wmds would be found. enough
evidence was found to prove that saddam had violated resolution 1441 and therefore justified
the invasion.
change opinion of the war ? i trusted the intelligence. similar intelligence estimates were reached
by other nations. we had no better information at the time. as an example, germany's estimates
of saddam's nuclear capabilities were worse than ours. saddam himself confessed he wished to
re-build his wmd arsenal once attention subsided. what more need be said after saddam's own
words ?
i can grant that bush did not present the case with the needed finesse. his choice of words and
over-confidence was not tactful. but i regard saddam's own words more as the final report than
what was released today.
regardless of wmds, would i still have consented ? yes, and not only in iraq.
sudan, rwanda, and bosnia all suffered because nations who could have interfered to prevent
massacres (and worse) did not, thereby making them morally culpable in the crimes committed.
i don't believe innocent and concerned bystanders exist amongst nations.
