We had informally planned to. Made it until three weeks before the wedding. I think it's mostly done to keep your focus on what's important which is spending time together talking and getting to know each other and yourself. We had plenty of romance.......long walks, drives while drinking hot chocolate, poem writing, hugs, hand holding.

I am a very firm believer in no sex before marriage but kissing - I see no problem with that.

I tend to believe that the level of intimacy should be appropriate for the level of commitment. Personally I would not kiss someone before I was engaged.

But I know plenty of Christians who believe that kissing before marriage is the only way to go. I respect their beliefs and understand their reasoning (what redgtxdi said) but that's just not the way I interpret God's laws on relationships.

As a Christian myself, I have a very lax view on these sorta things, but I do agree on no sex before marriage, not just morally, but commen sensically, as well as the fact that I don't wanna get any STIs. :x

Sounds like a great way to push the divorce rate even higher then it already is!

I am perfectly happy to pass judgement on both: I am totally for premarital sex and promiscuity, and totally against extreme monogamy. In the main, I consider myself to be "pro-sexuality".

"Promiscuity" is a word that carries a negative connotation, I think largely because it usually refers to women, and society for some odd reason thinks that it's a bad thing that women like to have sex (for its own sake).

Whatever floats their boat, as long as they don't get on other people about it.

Ha, friends of mine lasted until they got engaged before they kissed. By the time they got married 4 months later they'd "done everything but".

I pass judgement on extreme promiscuity. They're scumbags, who have an extremely high chance of catching STDs.

Haha just read the original thread (anandtech 25th on forums list). Maybe all the tools voted there. And your earlier post is accurate and insightfull in my opinion.

I think it's mainly because women control sex, for the most part, and if you had a woman who always said "yes" when a random man made a move on her, she'd be the most beaten piece of meat on the block.

A guy always wants sex, and it's his lack of success which keeps him decent. A woman needs to understand the influence she has. With power comes the need for responsibility.

Two scenarios:

1. A decent looking guy gets drunk at the bar and declares that he wants to have sex with someone. Most people will look down on him and he has a slim chance of getting laid.

2. A decent looking girl gets drunk at the bar and declares that she wants to have sex with someone. She has a 100% chance of getting laid. Seriously.

I suppose I would say yes. I have gone all my 19 years without kissing a girl so far, might as well keep it up. While im against sex before marriage, i think that kissing is going abit overboard, but I certainly understand the pratical reasoning behind it. I would most likely be one of those ones who dont before an engagement rather than marriage, but who knows, a hot girl could come along that I cant keep away from.

Ripped from that forum...

I've never had a romantic kiss, and it will stay that way until my marriage day.

I bet it's gonna be one heck of a passionate kiss that my then-to-be wife and I have on the altar.

Note: kisses from Mom or a little child are permissible.

Made me laugh because his name on that forum is Rising Tree.
