Does anyone knows how can you manuely configure IRQ in W2K when there's no hardware conflict registered? My operating W2K Professional configures just about everything for IRQ 9 (Matrox G-200, Adaptec SCSSI, ISDN card, SB Live!..and the USB controler).
Device Manager shows no conflict but the systems behave strangly, and hangs. IRQ 10 is free. This is a dual boot rig and Win98se does make use of IRQ 10. I'm trying to allocate some devices to IRQ 10 in W2K but there's no way to manuely do it as the Manuel option in Device Manager wont let me change settings.

You most likely are running win2k on a ACPI enabled PC. When you installed Win2k it installed the ACPI hardware abstraction layer. When the ACPI hal is installed Win2k deals with assignment of IRQ's for devices. I currently have five devices sharing IRQ 9 on my system And I haven't had a lick of trouble since I installed Win2K on mystem system in march. You will not be able to change the IRQ assignments manually with the ACPI HAL installed.

The only way you can manually change the IRQ's is if Win2k was installed and the Standard PC Hal was installed. Most likely your problem is not because of the irq assignment arrangement. It might be a driver for your hardware, or even a fluky program that you have installed. Also try running the following from the command prompt:

chkdsk /f

This will check the integrity of critical system files and make the necessary changes if any problems are found.

if you just have to, you need to turn off plug&play aware OS in the bios to do it.
