I tried Vietnamese food the other day, and man, this stuff is awesome. The guy was awesome and explained everything about the menu. I had Bún Th?t Bò Xào. Man, it was some good stuff. The egg rolls were out of this world and hoisin sauce is delicious.

If you've never had it, I suggest that you try it out. I snagged a menu from the place. What do you guys recommend for a southern white boy?

Yes, yes it is good.

I was in Vietnam back in Feb, and my absolute favourite dish was Cao Lao, it's served only Hoi An.

I hate Vietnamese food. Not because it is disgusting, it isn't, but because it is just a worse version of other foods. For example Pho, their pride and joy apparently, is done ten times better by Thais. The other stuff I had in Vietnam tended to be rotting meat serve on rice. The stuff I have in the states seems to be barely any chicken combined with a shitload of shitty vegetables drowned in soy sauce and served on rice. It's like if you asked a 10 year old to cook something "asian," that is what he might come up with.

I know there is good food labeled "Vietnamese," but I have a hard time believing it since I never actually saw it anywhere in Vietnam. The one good thing they have going for them is bia hao.

Hmm, well, I do love some Thai food. There's a Thai restaurant down the road from the Vietnamese place.

It's aite.

IMO it's very simple and to me there's cuisines that taste more sophisticated and more solid.

Pho vs. Ramen - Ramen wins (I'm talking the real Japanese stuff that's made overnight just like Pho)

Fish sauce - ugh that stuff is disgusting.

Edit: Also maybe my gf's only taken me to restaurants that are more like fast food places. You can find tons of Chinese restaurants (sit down restaurants), but I seem to get more dirty Vietnamese cafes instead. Maybe I'm just being shown the wrong places.... Shrug.

I like it but it gives me some wicked gas.... It smells like it did when I was eating it for some reason.

Love it.

I disagree that Thai is better too. Thai food is awesome, probably one of my favorite Asian cuisines, but it's not better than Vietnamese, it's different. They each have their own qualities.

I like Vietnamese food (I'm Chinese). Always go over to my friend's house when his mom cooks & invites me over. To me it's very simple, clean tasting, and makes good use of herbs without going overboard on spices (thai) or sauces (chinese).

I'm white - and I prefer the egg noodle soup over the rice noodle soups.

So I'd give the soup a try.
