I've not played this game. I've seen about 3 screenshots, though they instilled the fear of God into me and were a contributing factor behind my purchase of a computer upgrade today (HL2 coming out later this century was also a motivating factor). So, if you've played it, what did you think?

So, I got this going on Saturday. I played the mixed levels on the AT server that evening, and then I found myself compelled to find an onslaught-only server for Sunday's festivities. I've not had such a good impression of a video game in a long time. It reminds me of the awe I had when I saw Doom for the first time. I was giddy when I saw that, which was more than I was now, but I was bordering on giggly this time at least.

Deathmatch/CTF are the same old crap we've seen rehashed a million times. Onslaught is in a league of its own. It's like Tribes, except fun. Tribes sucked, especially since if you had no vehicle you'd spend 15 minutes crossing map. Map size on this demo level is perfect. It reminds me also of Halo. I'd not played multi halo, but I imagine it's like this, and probably not even quite as good. The only problem I can think of is that sometimes vehicles get "stuck" when you back them up and they backup slowly when getting over an obstacle. Basically though, this is the sort of demo that you play and immediately put in a pre-order.

I haven't played the demo enough to make a judgement, but from what I've played so far, it's REALLY fun. I have an xp2800+ with a 9700pro and the gameplay is quite smooth. :)

I love it! Then again, I loved the original. Didn't really ever play 2003.

The new game modes are sweet, as are the graphics. :D

It's basically UT2003 with vehicles, Onslaught mode and the re-introduction of Assault (which they were idiots to remove).

6/10

this game rox0rs my box0rs to the max0rs...

i loved the original UT...UT2k3 was blah...but i liked it somewhat...(about 7/10)

but this game, for some reason...it kicks major arse...the new music in the assault and the assault map is badass...onslaught ownz me...
deathmatch is always fun...they brought back the original voice, and the game runs smoother than 2k3......

bombing run i always thought was pretty fun and interesting, and required a ton of teamwork

the new voice implementation works flawlessly...but why add "text to voice" ?...at first when i heard it, i was laughing, but text-to-voice got annoying after awhile...

my rig plays this game pretty well (xp2400 oc'ed to 2.5 gighz..which is approx. xp3200 specs in terms of TBreds, vidcard = radeon9700pro) ...about 60-80fps on all maps except assault (sometimes as low as 25)..but it was bearable and didn't effect my gameplay...

all in all after playing it for awhile and AT's dedication to the game and AT's involvement in making servers and such...I BOUGHT THE PREORDER..GET YOUR PREORDER NOW!!!! (found in hotdeals and the other 10000 UT2k4 related threads )

Onslaught mode = great idea, great implementation

Rest of the game = UT2k3 = same weak weapons (plus old sniper rifle), same physics ... no satisfaction in killing someone... they just drop dead and I'd be like... oh I did that ? Not as fun as the original UT.

I say 7/10, although maybe I should've given an 8 because of onslaught.

You know, I am not impressed with the tournaments. I played and still play the original UT and think it the best so far IMHO. I ONLY like to play Deathmatch though so for others, its great. Wish they had just improved the original Unreal with weapons, maps, options as 3rdparties have done and made it as real as possible.

Let me talk to the other players real time? Oh, Yeah!!!

I'm curious too. I'm on the cusp of needing an upgrade too as my old Celeron 1.3 just can't quite cut it on the latest games anymore (especially if I end up liking this game and also with Thief 3 and HL2 coming out later this year.) But I'd like to hold out until Intel launches their new Socket 775 chips in the next couple months so I have more upgrade headroom later on.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews from my co-workers about the game thus far. We're toying with the idea of using one of the spare servers as a dedicated UT2K4 server. :D

Oops I lost track of this thread :) I bought an Abit NF7-S mobo ($90), Barton XP 2500+ ($75, and should hit 3000-3200 speeds), $18 coolermaster Heatsink/fan, and $92 for 512 megs of Kreton 3500 memory. All said and done was $303 (including a $20 420 W atx powersource I bought locally). I'm going to sell my celeron 1000 w/ 512 megs ram to somebody and throw in enough old parts to make a real computer. Hopefully result in a net loss of under $200 for a major speed increase. My vid card I'm keeping, which is an overclocked GF3 TI-200. It's not particularly fast these days, but paired with that CPU I expect it to keep me going for a while longer yet.

I like the game and I'll buy it when it comes out, but aside from Onslaught it's nothing special. I'm still keeping Quake 3 around. :)
