Basically my step-up eligibility ends on February 5, 2008, should I upgrade to the GTS (G92)?

I would link some benchmarks but they are hard to find since I'm looking at only the factory OC'd verisions. I have 8800GT KO @ Stock... Here are the differences from what I can tell:

Cards: GTS SSC | GTS KO | GT KO (Currently using)

My expense (-shipping) $100 | $69 | $0

GPU Speed 740Mhz | 700Mhz | 675Mhz

Pixel Pipelines 128 | 128 | 112

Memory Bandwidth 63.6 GB/s | 63.6 GB/s | 62.4 GB/s

RAM Speed 1980Mhz | 1980Mhz | 1950Mhz

What are your thoughts and PLEASE VOTE?

You may want to double-check which GTS are available for step-up, as EVGA typically only offers one base-line SKU per variant.

But I'd stick with the GT. If anything, save that money towards another one in SLI since you have the board for it. Or if something comes out that blows your GT out of the water after your step-up ends, like a 9800GTX, you'll have less invested in your current card.

Think of it this way: if some game is unplayable on a 8800gt, it would also be unplayable on a 8800gts, since the gts is only 5-10% faster. So save your money for a real upgrade when you need it.

Besides the money and being limited to the vanilla GTS, there is some hassle and inconvenience with the Step-Up. For me the difference would have to be much greater.

Unless you're having issues with the fan/cooling on the GT, I suggest you hold off the 'stepup for the sake of stepup". It's a waste of money, time, loss of use of card/pc for the transit time. Also, a number of issues can go wrong, the card can be DOA etc. all for a marginal benefit.

Save the cash.. good advice on here so far.

Hell, I have a Radeon X1900XTX that I will not dare to upgrade until something AMAZING comes along... I almost bit on the 8800GT though hehe.

Just like the statement earlier in the thread says... dont upgrade to another card that is also unable to play the same games as the card you have.

You're fine on what you have. The 8800GT's whole appeal was it's phenomenal price to performance ratio, stepping up would sort of negate that, especially if it's over $50.
