I think he would have said something like this: "Easter is a very important holiday to me, it holds deep meaning within my heart. Of course I know what Easter means, but my feelings about it are too personal to me to tell you here in front of everybody. It means a lot to many, many Americans, and I hope we can go about saying "Happy Easter" again without the nasty liberals telling us we can't".

Just curious, do you have any examples of Trump answering a question with something that would indicate he is more than a douchebag with a room temperature IQ? I ask becasue I've never seen or heard of such a thing from him in 3+ years.

Sure, you could run n00ky's version through a Trumpian syntax-mangling filter to get something closer to his uniquely disordered form of words, but the gist of it seems accurate to me. (Bit like when Alan Partridge was going on about The Beatles, but when asked what he thought was their best album could only come up with "The Best Of The Beatles".)

That is not vague, and is not an assertion supported by demonstrable facts. Trying to defend Trump with a speculative version of Trump that does not exist is what they do though. I think trumpets would do better to check their fiction at the door, deal with Trump as he is. But then again, if they could do that they probably wouldn't be trumpets.
Did not know that about Alan Partridge (their fame was a little before my time), but omg if that happened on a talk show or something I can just imagine the cringe of poseur shock rippling through the crowd.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding n00ky's comment (I have no idea what he's said before on the subject) but the remark you quote is completely generic, and in no way depends on actually knowing what Easter celebrates or means. That's pretty much what I'd expect someone to say who wanted to please Christian voters despite not actually knowing anything about Christianity - and I kind of assumed that was n00ky's point. I wouldn't say it was in any way flattering Trump.
(Alan Partridge was a TV sitcom, Steve Coogan's creation - too much of a Brit-specific reference, I guess!)

There are a lot of series with that character (world's worst chat-show host) - which I remember as being great, but maybe they'll have dated by now, dunno. The later ones probably make more sense if you've seen the first ones.
