well now that many of you have gotten new components for your computers, I suspect that it's time to do a bit of recruiting!

it's been a while, partly because I wanted things to calm down in this forum, so people won't get all hot and bothered with all these posts!

first of all, I'd like to direct your attention to the Distributed Computing forum, as well as the feature article on Anand's front page. those are the places to go, to find out information about RC5, OGR, SETI, and many more projects, almost ALL of which our team is kicking some major butt in!

the one that has had the most attention lately is RC5. that is because we are having trouble trying to keep up with our arch rivals, the Dutch Power Cows.

if we could get all the members who have stopped for some reason or another to continue going (yet still are counted as part of our team), that would help our team immensely, however, I suspect that won't happen at all.

all is not lost. we have an immense resource at our hands. Anandtech Forums. these forums have over 40 000 people registered. if only 1 out of 4 joined Team anandtech, each with say a Pentium 100, we would be immensely better as a team against all who oppose us!

RC5 is a project that uses the brute strength method of cracking 64 bit encryption that was made up by the people over at distributed.net. that is, all possible keys to fit the lock are tried.

SETI, as well is a well deserving project. if you ever felt like me about things like this, you'd join in a heartbeat! Seti@Home, is a screensaver program that downloads small (300k) chunks of data that are tiny parts of data that are taken from radio telescopes.

it can be set to run all of the time (in background), or only when your screensaver turns on.

I personally will be contributing all of my work on my K6-2 400 back to Seti@Home when RC5-64 is complete.

for more information, just ask right here in this thread. when I search for data, I personally hate it when people refer me to other webpages, etc. the solution is this. you ask here, and people who participate in this, or those who know about it, will answer you HERE.

I just added my 1.07GHz P3 system to the lineup. I have a total of 5 systems cracking blocks for AnandTech. :)

great! all help is appreciated!

if you didn't know, a few people on this board are really into this.. they have racks of machines just cracking merrily away! you don't have to go quite as overboard as that, but you can see, they enjoy it enough to do that kind of thing!

I need some help here, I just reformatted and lost my rc5. I was in a team but I kind of forgot which one and I need the rc5 cracker that submits to my team or whatever. I believe it was called something like TA Cube with all sorts of borg people.

I'm afraid I can't help you ,I'm not an RC5'er ,but if you post for help over at the Distributed Computing Forum ,eg something like 'disconnected Drone seeks to rejoin The Collective' ;).I'm sure you'll have an answer real quick :)

[edit]The Borg are everywhere!:Q ;)
