Definition of the Person(s)/Thing of the Year: The person, persons, or thing that "for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year."

It's that time of the year again!! Who would you choose as Time's Person(s)/Thing of the year and why?

I'm gonna have to go with Bush, even though there are no new things that he's screwing up, it's the residual effects and plus, no changes. I could be wrong and someone will come in here and tell me how I'm wrong, in 3... 2... 1....

Time's choice of "You" is weaksauce. Web 2.0 is garbage, how did it influence events? It's probably what affected Time the most, since they see they are not very relevant anymore and are desperate for attention.

I would have picked Ahmadinejad, just looking at what are the big events of this year.

I really don't care:

In recent years, the choices for Person of the Year have also been criticized for being too Americentric, which is a departure from the original tradition of recognizing foreign political leaders and thinkers. Until Bono received the shared title in 2005, Time had gone over a decade without recognizing a non-American individual. A breakdown by nationality also shows that more than a half of the people who have ever been selected for the title have been Americans[citation needed]. Furthermore incumbent US Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter were designated Men of the Year in the years of the election that led them to the high office in the following year, without them necessarily having been influential in the meantime.

It was a hard decision, but I went with Bush. Despite not being the sharpest tool in the shed, he does hold the title of President of the United States... the most powerful and influential political office in the world. He has the power to influence events on the world stage, and he did.

So far this poll shows that Youtube has influenced the world more than George Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad combined...

I'd hope that they would pick something positive like YouTube or the Nintendo Wii, rather than something negative like Iraq or Joe Lieberman.

Edit: Actually, they just picked the person of the year... You!

Yeah, You! (Reading the article, they're basically nominating Web 2.0 and interactive tech)

I'm not sure if that is positive or negative 🙂
