Bon Jovi is easily metal. Listen to the bands earlier records.

Slippery When Wet is definitely a heavy metal record.

Metallica, by far.

AC/DC, Ozzy, and GnR are also damn good.

Hmm... did I miss any bands?

:D

A few. And half those bands are too soft even to be called rock.

Like who? Firehouse? Maybe, but I'd still consider those type of bands to be heavy metal. True they got famous from their power ballads but they were still considered heavy metal. Mostly lite metal but still in the same category as most heavy metal bands.

Don't forget that between 1980 and 1989 Iron Maiden released 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'The Number of the Beast', 'Piece of Mind', 'Powerslave', 'Somewhere in Time', and '7th Son of a 7th Son'... (And 'Live after Death', but that was 'just' a live album)

Iron Maiden wrote great songs in that decade, they should at least be mentioned among the top bands :)

Edit: Oh, and where is Slayer on that list? And Motorhead? Testament?

Yep I agree. Me and my buddies would drink and listen to that band all the time. I saw those guys one time and it was great. Awesome band.

metallica for metal, and pantera for heavy metal, not sure if pantera were there in the early part of the 80's

I'm going to have to go with Stryper. All the others make the Baby Jesus cry...

Yeah..

I dunno, I never got into maiden much for some reason, although they do have some awesome songs.. The Number of the Beast(song) is awesome.. amongst others.

It's kinda silly to talk about this kinda stuff, because music is so subjective...

One person might listen to Metallica and say its garbage, that it "doesen't even sound like metal" or something like that.. because they're used to a different style of metal.. like Ozzy or something. In turn, I say that about most of those other hair bands. :p

Most of the people voting probably weren't even born yet in the 80s, let alone that they know even 1/5th of the bands mentioned :p

How could I miss Stryper!! My buddies dad who was a preacher would only allow his son to listen to that one band. And if he got caught listening to any other metal bands he would get his a** beat.

Back then I called Motorhead Hardrock. Now half the songs sound more like Blues to me :)
