OK, Blackjack is the #1 table game in the world, and there's no doubt that a lot of you guys here play it. It's a game that if played properly, and with some skill can be won on a fairly consistent basis. So, let's talk about strategy, card counting, personal experiences, what casino's are nice, etc...

Me, well, I am 23 and have been playing blackjack pretty regularly for the past 5 years at Indian casinos in the midwest. The game of blackjack has helped pay for college, bought me a computer, bought me a home theater / stereo system and a ton of DVD's, and made sure that I always have a lot of money available if I ever need it. I am up about 1600 dollars this year, and over the past 5 years I am up about $8000.

I have gotten hammered before, I lost 900 bucks once, and 700 another time, but I can say that I have won money in at least 70% of my trips to the casino. Sometimes, I get 75 bucks up and quit, other times, I don't quit when I'm 400 up. I usually play 10 or 15 dollar tables, and recently, I have switched to PITCH blackjack, which has better odds since there are only 2 decks where I play.

So, how about you guys?

Lost about $600 total thanks to blackjack (Vegas, Windsor). :( Wish I had your luck! Care to share any tips with those of us who like to hit?

Go to places that aren't big casino's like harrahs etc.
Oddly enough better odds it feels like.

I've lost over 2k in harrahs but won over 3k in like boomtown (reno)
so it balances out positive.
But always when i play at harrahs i lose.

For some reason, which i'm not propogating anything, i just do.

Also don't bet on insurance...unless you've been counting and know that theres more then 75% chance of dealer or two or more of you getting a ten in hand, or if you don't have a good hand. (IE 20)

oh yeah...the other thing...i see people hitting all the time on 16, 15, 14. Don't do it! Sure you could better your hand, but you can't contend against a dealer with a busted hand can you?
Especially if the dealers got any of 3,4,5,6 showing.
Sure he's got a chance of bettering his hand, but he's also got a good chance to bust if he's got a 4, 5 , 6 showing.

Just got to remember what cards have been played.

And try to play at tables with less then two decks so you can get that sense of feeling.
Also leave the second you feel somethings wrong.
third and perhaps most important...know when to quite. Quite when your up a decent amount, or quite when more then three players are at the table on a two deck shoe.

I hit 16 if the dealer has 7 or higher. you have much better odds of winning if you hit it against 7 or higher. People who hit 16 against 2-6 are just pissing their money away, and possibly taking the dealer's bust card and hurting the rest of the table in the process.

if the dealer has a 7 showing, s/he has a 25% chance of getting a ten under there, meaning anything below s/he will have to hit again. (short of an ace) Translates to lets say an average of 2-9. which then of course dealer has to hit again, increasing her range once again by 2-9
so lowest dealer could have after hitting twice would be an eleven (good hand) or a 25 (bust) in other words, if she even hits a 6,7,8,9 once theres a damn good chance the dealers going to bust.

Not to mention you hit on a 16, you have a 35% chance of bettering your hand and not busting. So you better your hand, to say 19. Dealers still got a damn good chance of busting as well. Instead you risk the chance of busting to better your hand?

its all about risk management.

When I gamble I start with $100 and play $20 on 5 different tables/machines and chalk up any loss to entertainment. And I play each $20 like it was the only $20 I had to play with.

As Bill Cosby says, "I'll kill them at blackjack if they ever change it to 23."
