That's kind of how I feel. The "trying hard" part kinda made it seem awkward to me. Office space is certainly a genre movie, but it's so good at what it does it's just classic.

Office Space is my favorite movie of all time....

I didn't like the TBL at all. I'm not sure why, but it just wasn't funny. I can tell its a good movie though.. had great characters, atmosphere etc.. the comedy just seemed forced! I think I laughed maybe one time? I really wanted to like it too, I even bought the DVD before ever seeing it, ended up selling it.

There's no WAY Fargo is better than Big Lebewski.

2 very different films. i dont think its fair to compare a drama to a comedy. I love em both though.

I know Fargo was good, but it's been so long since I've seen it, all I remember about is:

  1. 1
William H. Macy says, "Your darn tootin!" quite a bit.
and
  1. 2
The big guy at the end with a chipper/shredder/mulcher chipping/shredding/mulching some things.

i love Office Space!! I love when they beat up the copy machine and when Michael Bolton is singing rap in his car on the way to work.

both films are very character-driven comedies, i.e. the plots are almost inconsequential - the characters' various idiosyncrasies are what really make the movies amusing, and better upon each viewing because one is more and more familiar with the characters. that being said, i think the big lebowski works on a few more levels than office space and i generally like it better.

I gotta say that I liked TBL a lot. But OS is just more easily quoted without having to leave half the cursing out because it is inappropriate for the setting. I love quoting movies as much as the next guy. For a movie to be quoted means it was at least memorable or witty. TBL is very witty, but much more complex dialog leaving it

a : harder to quote correctly without pulling out scripts
b : harder to find an audience that has seen it so you dont have to explain in detail
c : harder to quote because the scenes tend to be longer to get full effect...
d : replay factor was lower than OS

BTW, this is my opinion... You got one, express it... Don't take shots at mine...
