They still had to question her. There's that 0.00001% chance that it wasn't really her who posted it. If she wasn't the one who posted it, they'd need to find out who did. They can't find that out without questioning her.

Why would a 14 year old girl confess (which I assume she did) to making the picture if she didn't?

Um, so they don't get caught? So the SS ends up questioning a random 14 year old girl and not the actual person that posted it? And who said they would have had to hack anyones account, they could have created one with false info.

But to answer your question people confess to things they didn't do all the time.

It happens, usually because they have something to gain from lying. What would she gain by lying?

If you're using sarcasm, QFT. If not, look at school shootings and such. Some kids are just crazy. A 14 year old can be quite dangerous. At 12 I could shoot a deer with a 30-06 from a couple hundred yards easy.

Some states the general miranda warning is enough for minors. Other states require a a simplified miranda warning for minors. Some states require an interested adult, ex. a social worker, to explain to the minor their rights. Very few states require parental consent.

So much ignorance in here. They investigated a threat, 14 year old girl/male or not. They did they're job. It's not about common sense or lack thereof, they just did they're freakin job!

In addition, remember Columbine? How old were those two boys? Obviously they were a threat..they killed enough people. :disgust:

There are plenty of people who turned out to be murderer on myspace. For instance Jessi , 20 years old, killed 2 people. Check the comments left by his "friends" on his page. There are plenty more killers out there.

Threats issued on myspace should be taken seriously. People on myspace can be dangerous.

BTW minors today have pushed the envelope now in that they are no different than adults in the types of crimes they commit.

I agree with this. One doesn't not have to agree with the president...however; making death threats whether in joking or seriously is treason in my book as well.

People today seem to think laws only apply to the other guy. I do not like some laws, I make the choice whether I will break them or not. If I am caught, I don't cry about it...I knew the possible consequences ahead of time...likewise being ignorant to them is no excuse either.

Everyone thinks everyone should get a few free passes at crime and everyone should get a second-chance.

I blame most of this onslaught today to lack of parenting. In my day (growing up in the 70's), there was disipline at home, at school, and if you were out wandering around (the mall, stores, etc)...today almost no one says anything for fear of being sued or assaulted by the children/parents.

I witnessed something called 'Push and Squoosh' at SeaWorld this past week. about 4-5 were trying to get into the center of one of the full rows during a show. The mom shouted 'push and squoosh' and the kids started piling into the middle of the row and pushed to the left and right as another sat and did it. All the while saying 'push and squoosh'...it was surreal and 2 adults were bumped out of the row. I almost climbed down, but it was packed and I was about 5 rows up and in the middle of my own row.

Could it not have been wishful thinking instead of a threat? And you're right, she's a minor, I don't know how that plays into this, maybe if you're considered a threat to the president, all bets are off.
Not a bright thing to do, but ffs, the secret service should have been a little more realistic with this. What other real issues were looked past because they were investigating a 14 year old?
