Right the vast myspace consipiricy. So lets assume you are right they traced the IP to the house. Ok so now they have confirmation that it was posted by a 14 year old girl and doing more investigation is even more pointless.

Man, you really are an idiot. Do you think before you post at all?

Info can be forged. IP addresses can be faked. So what if they traced the IP address to someone's house? You think they should stop there?
SS: "Ok, this IP address is traced to that house. Since it is from that house, it must be a 14 year old girl."

Right

They still had to question her. There's that 0.00001% chance that it wasn't really her who posted it. If she wasn't the one who posted it, they'd need to find out who did. They can't find that out without questioning her.

What about the .000001% chance that she lied to the investigators. When do they stop investigating. You have your limit I have mine.

Why would a 14 year old girl confess (which I assume she did) to making the picture if she didn't?

Why would someone spoof thier IP adress, Hack a 14 year old's myspace account and make a joke "threat" against bush.

But to answer your question people confess to things they didn't do all the time.

Um, so they don't get caught? So the SS ends up questioning a random 14 year old girl and not the actual person that posted it? And who said they would have had to hack anyones account, they could have created one with false info.
But to answer your question people confess to things they didn't do all the time.
It happens, usually because they have something to gain from lying. What would she gain by lying?

The secret service must have a REALLY tough job tracking down the millions of people on the internet who have made threats against Bush.

Ah, to be 14 again...
Is that when you used to threaten the president too?

No, but that's when it would have been forgiveable to talk like this:

"I mean, look at what's (stenciled) on my backpack - it's a heart. I'm a very peace-loving person"

...

"Are you serious!?!? omg. Am I in a lot of trouble?" her daughter responded.

Also, if I ever got in trouble with the law, at least they'd mention in the newspaper that I was an honor student.

It was a 14 year old girl! She was no threat. Kids say stuff like that all the time.

You know the CIA is overfunded when they start questioning middle school kids.

Yeah, a fourteen year old is no threat.

How many kids 14 year old kids have ever shot someone?

If you're using sarcasm, QFT. If not, look at school shootings and such. Some kids are just crazy. A 14 year old can be quite dangerous. At 12 I could shoot a deer with a 30-06 from a couple hundred yards easy.

Like I said most states.

Some states the general miranda warning is enough for minors. Other states require a a simplified miranda warning for minors. Some states require an interested adult, ex. a social worker, to explain to the minor their rights. Very few states require parental consent.

ROFLMAO, I can't stop laughing... A 14-year old girl... posting a stupid remark on the internet, on myspace no less, is considered a national threat... BWUHAHAHAHAHAHA. I can see it just now:
-we have ascertained target location
-what is it?
-middle school
-let's roll...

rofl SS must have had a slow month, kind of like cops here, either you don't see any for a month at a time or you see 4-6 with radars all in one day...

So much ignorance in here. They investigated a threat, 14 year old girl/male or not. They did they're job. It's not about common sense or lack thereof, they just did they're freakin job!

In addition, remember Columbine? How old were those two boys? Obviously they were a threat..they killed enough people. :disgust:

Also, anyone have a link to her myspace page? Were there more comments of that nature posted by either her or some of her friends?

Yeah, I mean because you can always really tell someone's age and gender just by what they say it is online. So stupid of the SS to do their job.

What are you, a robot? Common sense!

It was on a effing myspace page!!

There are plenty of people who turned out to be murderer on myspace. For instance Jessi , 20 years old, killed 2 people. Check the comments left by his "friends" on his page. There are plenty more killers out there.

Threats issued on myspace should be taken seriously. People on myspace can be dangerous.

You mean like one of the killers' Friends? If you look at his pics he's 17 and brandishing an AK47. Would you consider that dangerous..I would.

No one threatens the President of the United States with death. No political or party offiliation discussion is necessary, period. For a US citizen to do it, that's treason as far as I'm concerned. Mandatory prison time would be fitting.

So we should anyone say whatever they want on myspace because "it can't be real"?

BTW minors today have pushed the envelope now in that they are no different than adults in the types of crimes they commit.

The SS is going to be REAL busy if they start questioning people on MySpace. Especially every time a 14 yr old posts something stupid.

I agree with this. One doesn't not have to agree with the president...however; making death threats whether in joking or seriously is treason in my book as well.

People today seem to think laws only apply to the other guy. I do not like some laws, I make the choice whether I will break them or not. If I am caught, I don't cry about it...I knew the possible consequences ahead of time...likewise being ignorant to them is no excuse either.

Everyone thinks everyone should get a few free passes at crime and everyone should get a second-chance.

I blame most of this onslaught today to lack of parenting. In my day (growing up in the 70's), there was disipline at home, at school, and if you were out wandering around (the mall, stores, etc)...today almost no one says anything for fear of being sued or assaulted by the children/parents.

I witnessed something called 'Push and Squoosh' at SeaWorld this past week. about 4-5 were trying to get into the center of one of the full rows during a show. The mom shouted 'push and squoosh' and the kids started piling into the middle of the row and pushed to the left and right as another sat and did it. All the while saying 'push and squoosh'...it was surreal and 2 adults were bumped out of the row. I almost climbed down, but it was packed and I was about 5 rows up and in the middle of my own row.

but they should have had her parents there since she is a minor.

Could it not have been wishful thinking instead of a threat? And you're right, she's a minor, I don't know how that plays into this, maybe if you're considered a threat to the president, all bets are off.
Not a bright thing to do, but ffs, the secret service should have been a little more realistic with this. What other real issues were looked past because they were investigating a 14 year old?

Absolutely.

Sorry, everything does NOT fly in reality. You cant just do anything you want to liberals.
Sorry! You cant kill people (though you currently do with abortion) and you cant threaten the President of the great nation (yes conservatives view this as a great nation) of the United States of America.

Take your flag burning asses back to the USSR to your socialist haven, you dirty hippies.

The parents of this girl FAILED to properly raise their daughter and are teaching her treasonous ways.
Ah, the liberals life I suppose.

Umm, sorry to interrupt your 'mccarthy was the coolest' meeting but the ussr disbanded a few years back, so take your neo-con ways and head right down to 1600 pennsylvania avenue, you'll find a crapload of people with your facist mentality.
I think they have sheet in your size, I'm sure it's single.
