i have just changed to a p3 933 eb flip.

everything is cool but i now notice that i get sporadic noises coming from within the tower.

i can hear the very quiet atx case fan but every 5 seconds i get this harsh grinding noise, as if the hard disk is screwed.

thing is it`s not the HD and it is getting very bugging.

it`s as if some internal fan either on my matrox g400 or my p3 933 cos it`s not the case fan.

would this be right and should it be spinning fast then slow ? i doubt it but then that is why i ask the experts here.

thanks guys. and can u recommend a great fan if this is the problem.

On your computer...with the fan noise...I am no expert but have had similar problems before. Like last night, there was a burning noise coming out of the computer. I found out it was this one extra fan I put in there about 1/2 a year ago and I forgot about. It took up an ISA slot too, and it was so dusty - I took out I think 1/8 lb. of dust outa there last night. Looked like human hair almost :) Human fur :) hehe nasty I know.

Anyway try going this:

First, with out taking anything outa your computer, try putting your ear up really close to all the fans - the cpu fan, power supply, any case fans you have, and the video card fans, or the hdd / cdrom / floppy drive - it can be anything, right?

If that doesn't work.....and don't take my advice 100% on this cuz I've never had a p3, so I'm not sure how they work.

For my computer, I can boot it up with only a few devices....so....

What you can do, is take out everything - all of the drives, floppy drive, cdrom, hard drive, etc. (not physically "take them out," just unplug them - and leave only the power supply (which you naturally need, of course), the chip, ram and motherboard in. You can even pull out the video card if you want (in my computer you can do this, and it doesn't mess up anything). Then....if you hear the noise - it's probably one of those 3 things - the power supply / powersupply fan, or the chip. What else could it be? Nothing else moves, right?

If it's none of those 2 devices, start plugging in devices one by one, starting with the video card (so that you can see that your computer is working fine). Whenever I build a computer, I always like to plug in the video card first, to make sure that hte mobo / chip / ram / power supply all work fine before I start adding other stuff...

I'm pretty sure, using this method, you will have your problem solved in no time.

I'm no expert, but I'm sure this will work. Hope this helped.

Are you sure it's not your stomach making the noises? It most commonly happens when an individual is hungry. :D

Your computer is growling cause it doesn't like the P3. Try putting in a T'birdy with a killer heatsink and fan and it will purr like a kitten, or just maybe like a really big fan, but it will purr...
