Which do you prefer?

I can't stand home-made ice cause it leaves those little floaties in the glass, and it tastes like whatever you have in the freezer. :disgust:

Store bought ice on the other hand, is nothing but crystal clear, flavourless, crunchy goodness.

Eh?

You need to clean your freezer. Buy some baking soda. It will absorb all of the nasty odors.

Now the water here is terrible. I won't drink it.

I love store bought ice, but I dont see any point in buying it when we have an ice maker here in the house. Our fridge even crushes the ice for ya. But on holidays, or when we have guests, we'll always grab a bag of store bought ice since the ice maker cant keep up. Its wonderful.

If it taste like what ever is in the fridge, then wash it out a bit. Or, get a better refrigerator.

Home-made if there's an automatic ice maker. Otherwise it's store bought for me because I'm just too lazy to fill the trays.

I prefer home made but there's a few tricks to making near perfect ice cubes.

The ice cube try must be CLEAN, best way to do this is run it under HOT water for a minute or so.
I prefer to use cold purified tap water (using a BRITA or PUR water filter pitcher).
The ice cube tray must lay totally flat in the freezer.

My wife kept freaking out on my plumbing nightmare when I hooked up the reverse osmosis unit to the icemaker/water dispenser, after a month she was hooked, no floaters & it tastes like bottled water:D

there is no question that store bought ice tastes better than the ice most refrigerator/freezers make in my mind.

but its really an inconvenience and expensive, so we bought a restaurant style standalone ice machine at an auction for i think $250. It makes pretty clear ice and a whole lot of it :) which comes in handy when you're filling 2 60 quart coolers every friday saturday and sunday.

No brainer for me since I have an icemaker in the freezer. My parents on the other hand are Store bought ice people. They started buying ice when their ice maker broke about ten years ago. I guess they liked it enough not to bother with calling the repair man.

Absolutely.

If you want to make fun of the topic, do it. Be prepared to defend yourself though. ;):p
