i have been geeking all weekend trying to get my celery2 to be stable at 950 and havent had any luck yet...

Abit BX-6 rev.2 w/qr bios
Retail celery2 633 on Abit slotKET III (08-30-00)
128 Meg pc100 ram (single stick)

i have to run at 1.85 volts to have it run @950Mhz!

it runs but locks up after a short time just browsing the web and quake3 kicks me back to the desktop after a short time of playing...

i think i need to scrape that kotex off the retail heatsink and get some thermal paste! after that i guess i could go up to 1.9 volts if i have to...

i would really like to see what everyone else is getting and how your doing it!!! i would be open for suggestions as well!!

I have an Abit BE6-II Rev1.2 and a Cel 2 566@850. My system is perfectly stable at 1.75 volts. I have seen people go as high as 2.1 volts, but I believe that is too much. Check out the CPU database at Overclockers.com and you can see what the average is. Good Luck.

You already know what your problem is...that retail heatsink. Get a Golden Orb and some Artic Silver...you`ll be fine after that.

You definitely need to get better cooling.Mine ran 950@1.7v but under heavy load the temps would rise and it wasn't stable.I put on a gorb and arctic silver now it's cracking rc5 24/7. The temps dropped to 32c from 43c under heavy load.

well i had to change mine in an effort to stop getting kicked back to desktop during q3.. all i actually did for first try is change the thermal compund and that didnt do it so now im looking at new heatsink/fan.. but who knows, no fan might work to get me stable @950!! it is noticeably better though.. windows doesnt lock and q3 lasts longer so im using it @950 but......................

rushr ----> thanks! well maybe that makes me happy! i have hope again!!!

wonder where is gonna have the best price on gorb??

one thing i should say... i also changed the thermal compound on my voodoo3 (which already had a 486 fan stuck to it) and now im running at 195 from 185 and the heatsink barely gets warm!! these are both new speeds since keeping it stock till now at 166hz... from oclockin the voodoo3 and switchin from 300a/450 to 633/950 i went from 58 frames/s to 85 frames/s!!!!... so far i spent $100 for intel 633 and $16 for Abit slotket... i was HOPING to get away with just that but its not finished yet!! :)

********** UPDATE *************

welp... i know i needed additional cooling and i was planning on buying something pretty good but i could not sit around while deciding what to get and THEN wait for it to be delivered so i used some african ingenuity and made things work via 2 486 heatsinks wire tied to both sides of retail heatsink/fan setup.. no more lockups or anything ever!!! and games are looking better than ever!! thanks for everyones help!!!
