POLL: Starwars EP3 should have a "light whip".

StageLeft

No Lifer
I just came up with this novel idea. What do you think? I think that instead of a leather whip it would be a light-whip. So it would be the same light beam of a light saber except whip-like in its properties. I'd consider this to be a powerful weapon and one I would more than like to see in a future starwars movie.

It seems that most of the advantages a whip would give would be a) negated because the whip would only cut through objects, not allowing to grab objects and/or b) negated by the use of force powers. It would be a pointless addition.

Um... Take a flashlight... Try to bend the beam of light. It can't be done. Lightsabers are straight.... because they are made of light. Light whips aren't possible in the star wars universe.

How do YOU know? Have you been in the Star Wars universe? 🙂 🙂

Umm...Take a flashlight...move your hands through the flashlight. Nope, hands don't fall off. It's a movie.

Yeah I'd thought about the whole "how can light bend" and then quickly came to the conclusion that light sabers, as we understand science, are quite impossible anyway, so I don't find any reason why a light whip would not be possible in the SW universe.

Indeed I have, for days at a time.

Yeah that sounds really stupid, too bad they already came up with it:

"Vader knew that no secret could be kept from his master, the Emperor. He presented Palpatine with Lumiya as a gift -- as a new Emperor's Hand. Palpatine accepted, and Vader continued her training. Lumiya was sequestered on the ancient Sith world of Ziost when the Battle of Endor forever changed the Empire. It was on this frigid world that she crafted her unique weapon -- a lightwhip built of Kaiburr crystal shards and Mandalorian iron. "

Yes only one person is allowed to bastardize Star Wars!

Damn right.
The mention of the "light whip" immediately made me think of the Ferengi whip thing shown in Star Trek TNG and Enterprise.

I heard that they are possible... just insanely impractical.

how about a spin off movie series with an indiana jones character flying around the galaxy looking for artifacts? He'd make some nice use of a light whip I bet. 😀

I won't point out the grandioseness of a factual statement made about a fictional universe....

never mind..
