Poll: Soda/Coke/Pop/whatever drinkers....

If in say, 20 years, science determines that soda pop contains some kind of carcinogen or it's directly linked to severe health problems, would you sue the soda makers?

I was thinking about this today for some reason. I'm addicted to the caffiene in sodas (or maybe it's the sugar), but I realize that I'm taking risks in drinking them. Do you think there would be the knee-jerk reaction that we saw with the tobacco companies? Would Coke have to run "Don't give into peer pressure, don't drink Coke" ads?

There's a lot of negative material on the web regarding nutrasweet (aspartame), but most of it appears to be conspiracy theory conjecture and junk science.

Based on what is widely known to the public now, no I wouldn't. However, if I found out in 20 years that this whole time the manufacturer of the product knew their product was a carcinogen and did not release this information then I would probably sue.

If there was something that was physically addictive and harmful as tobacco in sodas, then yes I'd sue.

Addictive like caffiene?

Yeah - but it's not as addictive as tobacco or whatever else they stuff into that damn deathstick . . ..

caffeine is found way more in coffee than any soda. not even in all sodas and they manage to sell lots of sprite.

the thing thats ridiculous about the tobacco lawsuits is that people back then still knew smoking was bad for them and did it anyway. the only real case they have is that tobacco companies also knew it was bad and said it was good. thats fraud.
