Poll: So, was the Virgin Mary ebay cheese sandwich auction just an advertising campaign?

Sorry, I guess I wasn't real clear. Golden Palace won the cheese sandwich with the image of the Virgin Mary for $28,000.

I think it was a publicity stunt. It was planned even before the stupid cheese sandwich wound up on ebay. Why do you think ebay put it back up after it was taken off? The seller agreed that it was for sale and Golden Palace agreed that they wanted it.

Edit-It was either a really ingenious ad campaign or it became one. Is $28k worth the coverage it has garnered? You be the judge.

Story: Golden Palace won the cheese sandwich of the Virgin Mary for $28,000. Yes, I think this was entirely a promotional stunt on their behalf. They will easily make more than the $28,000 that they paid for the sammich in business that they'll attract.

I think it's obvious that goldenpalace staged it. No money will change hands - it must have been an employee of theirs that listed it initially. They are creative, i'll give them that.

I wish someone would nuke the Golden Palace...The Super Bowl, the Olympics and now moldy sandwiches...the madness has to stop

Didn't work very well since this is the first I've heard of who won or anything like that.

Golden palace is pretty slimy, but I must admire their creativity. And certainly their off-beat ad campaign is quite effective. How many boxing fans who may or may not want to place a bet haven't heard of them?

Why do you say that? I was listening to the Don and Mike show yesterday and they interviewed the lady that sold it to Golden Palace via Ebay. The lady was flying out to Hollywood where the sammich will be presented in its new display case and the lady will receive her $28,000 check. This event is happening at the Hard Rock cafe today.

I doubt she has had anything to do with Golden Palace up until this point. The sammich is supposed to be 10-years-old and she has kept it in a box with padding the whole time. Apparently, the sammich has not molded - or anything during that period of time, other than the fact that the virgin Mary has gotten more pronouced over that time.

I can't imagine it would be all that hard.
