Actually they proabably arent making anywhere near minimum wage when you consider they are working 24x7. Soldiers dont get to go home after 8 hours and forget about the office, they also dont get weekends off. Paying them minimum wage would probably be a large pay raise for the grunts.
They get free room and board, sounds great if you like sleeping in barracks and eating the crap a cafeteria makes.

Patty Smear: It's not that easy. And it's not the great deal one thinks it is. Have you ever been on active duty? Stationed or deployed to such exotic confines like the DMZ in Korea, Bosnia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia? Or on a six month cruise with the Navy? You know, your living area on a ship is smaller than a bunk bed.

Go on active duty for a while as a Private, Seaman or Airman. Then let us all know what you think about pay raises.

Dameon, when was the last time these "fellow countrymen" were in danger? The US has just been involved in pointless wars outside of Northern America, wars that were none of their business. These "fellow countrymen" were never in any danger untill the US army buttered in.

I support higher pay for the military as well as the money needed to build/rebuild the infrastructure necessary for a strong defense. I'd like the pay to be enough so that all the well-trained people don't leave as soon as their term is up just to be able to support a family. I want a military strong enough that no other country in the world even thinks for 5 seconds they can attack us successfully.
