POLL: Should there be a net-wide ban on Flash?

StageLeft

God, I fvcking hate this crap. When I surf I want things responsive and immediate. Flash requires me to click pretty buttons and wait for painful animations, not to mention the several second load time, and the way it "grabs" a window, until it's finished loading.

I call for an immediate ban.

in the absence of good ui design taking advantage of flash, i'd rather everyone be required to have a "Skip Intro" link and a flash-free version of their site.

It's fine, but there should be a very simple "right click > off" option for any page with macromedia crap on it.

When presented the option, 100% of the time i will pick an HTML page over a flash page. Flash is way overused and often with pointless purpose. Not to mention annoying.

If you hate it so much, use the magic key combo..."Alt+F4"

PS - you could always just uninstall flash so it wouldn't display in the page.

I just have the Flash Click to View plugin for Firefox. Stops all the annoying banner ads that have sound you can't turn off, and a bunch of other fairly annoying things people do with flash. And yet I can still watch the latest Strongbad emails.

i use firefox as my main browser and have not installed flash on it yet. if a page has flash and i need to use it, i have the view in IE extension, makes life a lot easier.

It's not just sites now. It's replacing good old fashioned banner ads. Animations you can't stop, and flash popovers that cover the page until you click it. Nasty.
