POLL: Should Mourning Doves be open to hunting?

Analog

Lifer
Supporters of hunting mourning doves say the bird would be a valuable addition to the list of game that can be hunted in Michigan. It would keep more hunters in Michigan and possibly entice more people to take up the sport, which could boost the economy, they say.

Opponents say the doves are songbirds that should be protected. They also are concerned about safety, saying that doves are sometimes visitors to outdoor feeders in residential areas.

There are more than 400 million mourning doves in the United States, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. About 4 million birds migrate from Michigan each fall, according to conservative estimates by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Wow, thats the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. The marginal increase in money flows from adding mourning doves to the list of animals that can be hunted could be categorized in the millionths of a percent compared to Michigans GDP.
