Will it make a big difference in applications and games?

The games I play mainly are FIFA2003, NHL2003, and UT2003. I'm running Windows 2000 with an XP1900+ and a R8500.

I notice that in UT2003 it seems to hit the hard drive quite a bit, that's why I'm thinking more ram could help. It could be that my videocard is only 64mb too tho. I have all the detail settings set to normal, 1280x1024 resolution.

256 to 512 definitely yields a performance boost. Heavy multitasking is greatly improved. My system hardly makes use of it's swapfile anymore, and I would disable it if it didn't cause so many problems.

You would get a bigger boost by getting a vnew vid card but getting more ram is a lot cheaper.

More ram up to a point is always good. 512 is considered the "sweetspot" right now. Then the law of diminishing returns come into play. You can always add more later. Stocking up is sometimes a good idea too ie, buy 1gig and your future proof. But by the time you *need* 1gig chances are you'll be using a different type of memory.

33 to 0 in favor of yes!
I'd definately say yes since you would be upgrading with more PC2700. PC2700 is still what the Athlon64 is supposed to have support for, so your upgrade would have staying power. Win2K would also appreciate it.

This is unbelieveable, I can't believe the response on this. I think I'll wait about 2-3 weeks tho because as someone said, the prices are falling through the floor right now. Thanks for the input everyone :D

512mb makes a very large difference in UT2003, i upgraded from 256 and it made everything much smoother and made my load times drop significantly.
