Dell is coming out with a 30" LCD 3007WFP

I have the 24" LCD 2404FPW now, and as you can see, it's sitting on top of an ALLSOP monitor stand.

Width wise, it fits perfectly with the stand. If I upgrade to the 30", I fear it won't look as plush.

Should I upgrade?

edit: all you need to know about the monitor here

if you upgrade to 30", you most likely need to upgrade you video card unless it supports Dual-link DVI.

How about you upgrade, and I'll pay for shipping to take that 24" off your hands. :)

No. You should buy a $2000 car and repeatedly run it into a Ditch on a lowly Country Road. If you walk out alive, then claim the car stolen and buy 2 30" displays.

can you give some examples of vid cards that support Dual-link DVI?

currently I have an ATI 9600XT and it supports my 2405 just fine.

it also plays UT2K4 at native res just fine...woot! :p

I don't want to buy it just because it's bigger..

looking at the specs, it would seem, the 2405 is a better value.

However, sheer size, the 30" is a beast!

so basically if you buy it will be because it's bigger

and if it offers more value like connections, which it does not :(

don't worry, I command corporate buying power, which means I don't usually need to wait for the hot deals ;)

cards that have NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 GPU and have a dual-link DVI port.

a single DVI has enough bandwidth to provide resolution to your 24" Dell, but a single DVI does not have enough bandwidth for the 30" resolution of 2560x1600. thats why dual-link DVI is necessary.

seeing as their 32" LCD TV costs $1,799 retail, I would guess the 30" LCD monitor to be a little cheaper. I would guess $1,499 starting price, and soon you could probably have it for around $1,100 with discounts and coupons :)

i think it would cost higher than the TV as the LCD TV has a lower resolution than the computer LCD

If a 24 incher isnt good enough, then a 30 incher wont please you.

(DAMN! THAT did NOT come out right.)
