Poll: Should I get a 1700+ XP Tbred B or Barton 2500 from newegg.

Ive heard the arguments both ways, but Im curious what the result will be.

I plan on overclocking whatever it is with Crucial PC2100 (or else some corsair perhaps) on an Epox 8rda+ with an SLK800 + Vantec Tornado cooling

Give me your opinion 🙂

Basically Im going to be running Seti on it most of the time, that and a few games/etc.

i dont have one myself but i think most ppl will say the barton, and i will too. although, if you plan to overclock to high fsb's (200+) then get some pc3200 ram at least. 🙂

I have a 2500+ and its at 2.4 gigs (210x11.5) @ 1.8v CPU, 2.7v MEM)

I can probably get it higher but not sure,. However I hear to you can pretty much do that same with the 1700+ so you can save some cash and get a better HSF to overclock.

Both are good choices, I like the 2500 but don't mine the extra cash, however that exta $40 can go a long way when selecting a nice HSF combo.

My vote is the 2500+ but for thrifty o/c'ers the 1700+ is the best choice.

gosh...

i hate these posts because it's SOOOOOOO hard to say which is better...

everyone makes a valid argument...

the thing is that i have a 1700+ @ 2.5 ghz and a 2500+ @ 2.4 ghz

and they both benchmark games and aps the same...

there's no guarantee that you'll get a 1700+ that'll do 2.5 ghz and there's no guarantee that you'll get a 2500+ that'll do 2.4 ghz

....

choices choices....

too hard...

won't answer this one...

argh...

I agree with Shimm. This question should not really even be an issue. Regardless of which cpu you choose, you will be singing its praises on the forum in a week or two. They will both easily satisfy you with the system you are putting together. So, flip a coin...

BTW, is newegg guaranteeing a Tbred B at $45?

I doubt that there are alot of A's still flowing through the high volume sellers like newegg. But it would be nice if they would state it in the item description.

yup, last time, people were getting As non-stop from Newegg even though AMD stopped producing them long ago
