***Poll*** Should AT kill off slower categories?

Correct. Tons of newcomers sign up, post in peripherals, and never get a reply. What happens? They leave and join somewhere else. Anandtech has fewer active members, and we are all hurt. If instead of posting in peripherals they post in general hardware, their question is answered immediately and they become great active members helping us all.

Plus having so many categories makes the "wrong forum" police quite annoying. Take a problem I had as an example. I had a peripheral that worked under Win 2000 but not under Win XP.
[*]Is that a general hardware issue (covering computer hardware)?
[*]Is that a peripheral issue (Plug ''n'' Play or Plug ''n'' Pray)?
[*]Is that an operating system issue (Windows 2K or not 2K)?
[*]Is that a technical support issue (Need a little technical help)?
[*]Is that a software issue due to a possible program problem (Here's where you can get some help)?
Post it in any of those forums and you'll get complaints that you are in the wrong place.

We need serious consolidation.
[*]I say get rid of Cases & Cooling and get rid of CPU/Processors and Overclocking. Most of those posts can be handled by General Hardware. But create one Overclocking category in their place (lose 2, gain 1).
[*]Toss the peripherals category as that is 100% covered by General Hardware.
[*]Cancel the SFF, etc category. This pretty much is covered by General Hardware.
[*]No one uses Highly Technical. Let those technical posts go into their respective categories. They have a better chance of being answered there anyways.
[*]I personaly don't see a benefit of subdividing software - they all are related. But if you get rid of what I say above, I wouldn't care if you created a special Gaming category. Provided of course that Off Topic gaming posts were put there.

Good point.

Did you bump your thread? After a couple of days with no replies the thread will just be pushed down by recently replied threads.

As a member of the wrong forum police, I'd say it fits in any of those. I think if someone atleast puts some decent thought into where the put the thread, I don't have any right to complain. And software (games, programming, etc.) can go into the software forum.

Yeah, but some folks just go looking for threads where then can say "wrong forum".

I rarely see it (especially in a mean spirit) in the OS forum.

Mostly agreed, with the exception of the software forum. It's currently WAY too broad & the people who seek code advice are overrun by those discussing the merits of Doom 3. Both have their place, but not together.
