I think this should be an included service....

while we're at it, all of them should come with the wallmount kit already. I find it funny that a $5K TV does not come with wall mount hardware....enough with these $300 wallmount kits.

so when you buy a TV, you're actually buying a service, not just the hardware.

As someone who does this for a living... You're insane. You can not have a blanket fee for installing a flat panel to a wall.

Mounting a plasma/LCD is more than just sticking it on a wall. If that were all it was you'd be right. Installing a flat panel to a wall can take 2-6 hours depending on construction, location of source equipment, wall finish, location of nearest electrical outlet. The only way you could insert a flat rate charge into the price of a flat panel is if ALL that it included was just physically sticking the thing to the wall... wires and power be damned. Plus, what if the customer doesnt want it mounted to a wall? Are they entitled to a discount?

As for the mounts... do you want a static mount? ($150+/-) A tilting mount? ($250 +/-)An articulating mount that pulls off the wall and sweivels? ($750 +/-) What if you don't want to mount it to a wall? Should you get a $300 discount for not taking the mount?

Quit yer whining and pay the experts to do what you are unable or unwilling to do yourself.

Super reply! Factually correct, with just hint of personal pissed-off-ed-ness.

<--HT guy who does everything DIY <--knows WHY professional installs cost big money (lots of planning, lots of hard work)

FreshPrince, what do you do for a living? I think you need to crawl out from under that rock you've been hiding under.

No, it definitely shouldn't be. Extra money for something plenty of people don't want or need.

Of course, that's taxes kinda work... ;)

I said sell it like a service...I don't give a damn if you do this for a living and I'm not saying don't pay the pro's...reading comprehension? I'm saying it should come with some sort of installation service..it can be customized by the customer. If they want the upgrades like tilt or articulating mount, then they pay extra. But most people will be content with the given static mount. So the pro's still get paid. For example, Best Buy can easily offer this with Geek Squad and you'd generate more jobs for the "pros." As for not mounting it...why not? who the hell buys a $5K TV and not mount it? that's like buying a car with a sunroof and never open it once lol...

I just installed a 55" plasma TV last night onto a wall WAY up high. Heavy damn thing! I generally don't trust any electronics store employee to install/configure anything I own.

Sorry am I missing something? I dont see the correlation between buying an expensive TV and mounting it on the wall... What if you already have an entertainment center that would house the TV perfectly? Should you buy a rear projection just because you arent going to mount it on a wall???

That is not what you said, and that is not what your OP seemed to convey either.
