I didn't go to my homecoming... I don't think it's really that important.
Originally, it was a social event for Alumni, not current students.
That's why it is called homecoming

...make sure you get a date for the prom though.

if you're going to have fun, then go

no point in going if you're not gonna have fun

go with a bunch of friends not going.
but if you're going just to go, then don't bother.

And yeah, don't go to prom alone. And hope you don't get a limo that's 1.5hrs late.. dang dc area traffic.

You're not a putz. I went alone my senior year... well I went alone technically, but I managed to uh... pretend my car was out of whack and get a lovely blonde junior (also going alone) to drive me there :D It was kinda funny cuz we both wanted to go with someone, but were scared witless to ask. I had a good time. :D

I did not get to go to my schools homecoming or prom, and I have always regretted it. So go, and have fun! Who cares if you go alone or with somebody, you work hard to get through school, those are your nights to celebrate. Take it from somebody older, (notice, not old!) than you. ;)

For me, getting a date just to have a date was not a good experience at all. It's really awkward, especially if you don't know eachother very well. The next year I went dateless with a bunch of friends and had a lot more fun.

BAH! Homecoming. BAH! I say

The ONLY major dance you have to go to is Prom and thats it. Just be sure you have a date for it.

Thats the only dance I went to during my High School Career.

Let's see, ...

3-sport athlete ...
Class valedictorian (wasn't official to graduation, but few doubted) ...
band, other activites ...
ZERO dates in high school, didn't even go to prom (I will admit that small schools and rural areas suck for a real social life)

4 Full academic scholarships for college (plus enough to buy a car)
Full academic fellowship to grad school at any of 80 or colleges
Now making over $65K at age 25
Probably to soon propose to my love of 5+ years (met as freshmen, started dating as juniors), she also athlete+undergrad scholar+grad scholar making over $50K at 25

I think things kinda balance out in the end. :)

-SUO, former putz?

Like stated, go with a group of friends or ask a girl out (as a casual date) - it beats going alone. I had fun on Homecoming even though I didnt know the girl I asked all that well.

SUOrangeman, I saw that moview, "Revenge of the Nerds" :)

SuperGroove, if you want to go and have some fun, go, take some friends, ask a girl out. You would be surprised at how many girls are sitting there just waiting for you to call. Give it a try. You are only young once, have some fun. If you get turned down by the girl, so what, it won't hurt you and you have at least tried. Get some friends together and go.
In years to come, would you rather remember that you spent your time on the computer or out in the real world? I can't answer that one, they didn't have computers when I was your age. :(

Go dude, it'll be fun. I had a "I don't give a f*ck" attitude in high school when it came to social events like that. Didn't go my first three years. Figured, what the hell, I'm a senior, I may as well go. I didn't decide to go until like 4 days before. I'm glad I went. Went with a huge group of people (like 15) to dinner. The reservations were foobared, and we ended up only getting there with about an hour left.

Same with prom. I was a slacker. Decided to go about 6 days before the dance. Heh. That kinda sucked, because it didn't give the girl I went with much time to find to a dress (she wasn't going, she was a sophomore), but we had fun anyways. Didn't have a limo, just drove my mom's Crown Vic.

Good times, good times. You only live once, do it to it.

I went everybody! I went with my bud, and well we didn't do anything for the first twenty minutes. I went around and finally my other friend who came with TWO dates decided to share his dates with me:) They're in my AP English class, so I was comfortable talking to them and they made me comfortable as I took to the dance floor for the first time in my life. I never knew I could move in ways that remotely resembled dancing! All in all I loved it, and I bumped into so many friends, it was waaay better than I expected. Now, like someone mentioned, I'm going to start trying to find a date for prom!

Only thing that sucked...is that they played song's like 3 Door Down's Kryptonite, and other hard rock songs. No trance...no Real McCoy or other club songs. Now I wanna go to my first rave!

WAHOO!

SuperGroove: glad you had fun...i just graduated from high school this past year and i never went to any of the dances except for junior prom and senior ball...they were fun though...that's why i regret not going to the dances...what grade are you in anyway?

so they played rock, huh? haha...that must suck...at our senior ball they were playing more techno/rave/trance stuff...a lot of my friends are ravers and got me listening to that stuff a while ago, but i never go to raves so i never really got a chance to dance to it...its much better than rock to dance to...well glad you had fun, go to all your school dances cause in college there aren't anymore...you can always go to clubs and raves later on, school dances are pretty much once in a lifetime...

thanks for the kind word guys. BTW, I'm senior:) Yes the rock was horrible...at one point...I thought one of the song's intro was to one of Paul Oakenfold's songs...but it was some mainstream crap like they played all night.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!?
