Baby Trump in Florida passed a law doing that very thing.

And the utter silence of the Repubs in that state over his attempts at ruling the state as an authoritarian is clear evidence that they'd rather rule the nation, OUR nation, as dictators than be true to the principles of a democracy that gave them the freedom to, in such ironic fashion, choose to be the fascists our forebearers gave their lives fighting against.

How easy it is for them to become fascists when the democracy they enjoyed for so long became an inconvenience, an obstacle in the path of their race based regressive agenda that they willingly chose as a means to keep power out of the hands of the majority of the nation.

As we've seen over the years, free and fair elections have been under siege by the conservative right exacerbated by the realization that they are on the losing side of history should democracy continue on the path fate was destined to take it.

A good amount of Russians do have some excuse for the terrible ways they think for to insane media restrictions they're, but here the Trumpies have none as they do have access to the real news. It's pretty clear the Trumpies are the worst of the two.

I think it's pretty clear that Putin is going to do what Putin is going to do and the ave Russian, including their non-Putin politicians, have very little power over what Putin is going to do. They certainly have no control over his ability to appoint himself to power.

The only thing that can possibly control Putin is an organized, strong West. Because of this, it would be the Magats and other rightwing fascist movements in the west that have far more culpability in this invasion than the ave Russian does. Magats have the ability to not be human garbage, but they choose to be this way and they vote accordingly with with their trash brains, quite publicly and proudly proclaiming in recent years that they prefer Putin to America, empowering Putin puppets and Putin policy all over the world.

The only way to really stop Putin is to dissolve the GOP.

I just saw a clip on Lawrence O’Donnell and I’ve read similar stories of how Ukrainians call their Russian relatives to let them know they are ok and are met with complete disbelief that any such war is going on. That’s pretty f-ing crazy and it really puts into prospective the level of propaganda putin is operating under.

If we (nato) were to attack Russia there would be a lot of clueless innocent Russian lives lost. The solution is to liberate Russians from Putin but I cannot imagine the process it would require to unbrainwash them.

That’s true and absolutely scary. I wonder if it’s possible to ban propaganda without violating free speech.

Russians supported Putin (to a degree) because Russia was in a state of near collapse by the late 90s. Half the population were drinking themselves to death, the country defaulted on its debts and could barely afford to feed itself. Putin got the country functioning again. He also, in Russian eyes, restored a little the country's self-esteem after the 'weakness' of Gorbachev and Yeltsin allowed the US treat it with open contempt.

(Now I think about it, it's not a million miles away from why people voted for Hitler - I guess nothing good ever comes out of economic collapse)

Supporting him _now_ is another matter. That's due to a mixture of patriotism, absence of accurate information, and fear, I suppose. What's more remarkable is that so many non-Russians support him, particularly the racist-right everywhere.

Godwin's Law invoked... not exactly helping your case by being hyperbolic and tasteless.

Two things:

To start, private companies and organizations have the right to dismiss people based on political views. It's the free market you worship, in action. You don't have to like it, and I wouldn't sack someone unless their views directly hurt the bottom line, but this is not the crime against humanity you imply.

And importantly, this isn't some left-versus-right bickering; they're being asked to condemn an unprovoked invasion that has included horrific war crimes. This shouldn't be a difficult request for anyone with a shred of decency.
