And yet you're making anti-trans and anti-gay comments on this forum. What precisely do you find off-putting? Is there a phobia curve I'm not aware of, where people are cool with being shitty to minorities, but for some of them there is such a thing as being 'too shitty'?
Wasn't that a big reason the civil rights movement took off? People were fine with the idea of segregation, but not okay seeing black people beaten trying to walk through town.

I can't really vote for "neither". It doesn't really strike me as a specific attack on the community, just a (dishonest) attack on Trump. Highlighting all the anti-queer stuff DeSantis has already done doesn't really qualify as an attack in itself IMO, but this isn't really civilized discourse either. Just something to get MAGA chud dicks hard about DeFascist, heck knows he needs all the help he can get because he has no charisma. As unbelievable as it is, I think probably most of the people this ad is aimed at aren't stupid enough to buy it. Reeks of desperation. LOOK AT THE MEMES, GAWD HE'S SUCH A CHAD!

I think the ad is just a test run before it all begins in earnest. If it does well, he'll run with it, if not, it will soon be forgotten.

That video is creepy as fuck!

First, do they know what “draconian” means? And why are there shots of glistening bodybuilders? And Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)? They think “the governor doesn’t care” is a good slogan? wtf. Going back to the “muscular men in speedo's segments of the clip.... OK, maybe it’s not so bizarre given the various GOP historical incidents (e.g. Larry “Tappy Toes” Craig) that suggest that utterance of anti-gay vitriol is a backdoor way (pardon the pun) of coming out of the closet. That add was actually very gay.

Culture war shit is literally the only thing keeping him going and all he's got. Pack it up and go home Ron. Good thing that Florida has term limits.
After 2024, He needs to get lost for 4 years and he won't be in the position to wreck people's lives and the people of the state move on and past this asshole.

They've changed other laws to suit their plans for him, who's to say ditching term limits isn't in the cards?

I dunno man ... Something like that would really have to go on the ballot. This guy isn't some cult of personality that everyone down here follows like a puppy dog. Especially in South Florida's east coast. He's down in some polls as much as 20 points and even down among millionaires as much as 50%. (Although Trumps support among them is slightly up). But I won't take anything for granted and I guess anything's possible. To many other power hungry Republicans to support something like that IMO.

In February, before the legislative session, the Hub’s polling showed DeSantis with a 60% approval rate and the Florida Legislature with 49% support from voters. But by the time the legislative session was winding down, in late April and Early May, their surveys found that the governor’s approval rating dropped by a whopping 19 points (50% approve / 49% disapprove).

According to the Hub, these results can be attributed to erosion among Democrats (-38 pts), No Party Affiliated voters (-16 pts), women (-12 pts), Latinos (-14 pts) – notably Cuban-Americans (-12 pts) – and Black Floridians (-37 pts).

The Florida Legislature’s approval rate also took a hit, dropping to 43% favorable and 47% unfavorable.

The poll shows that 32 per cent of Republicans with qualifying millionaire status currently support Mr DeSantis, a drop from 54 per cent at the end of 2022, while Mr Trump now has the backing of 28 per cent, up from 17 per cent last year.

I don't think it can, by definition, be considered an attack on "LGBTQ people" if the group making the alleged attack doesn't view them as people. At least from their viewpoint...

Yet he just won in a landslide.

This is true, although in his first term he largely stayed away from this culture war shit and basically just used COVID relief funds to raise pay for teachers and shit.

Before he started the culture war his approval rating in Florida was 60%. It’s dropped 20 points since.

From Hitler's point of view, he wasn't doing a bad thing.

DeSantis seems to touting his attack on the LGBTQ community to paint him as a warrior for conservatives.

This can’t be civil discourse IMO, as DeSantis is literally a government official legislating attacks on LGBTQ community, and now creating videos for his campaign using those actions

trumps not much better, doesn’t matter what a pathological liar says in an interview. He ran under the GOP party, which is mostly comprised on hate filled, fearful persons. LGBTQ is the current boogey man to scare them “straight”

This should help push his rating down even more. Ties into climate change.

He was re-elected in November of 2022. He had already gone full culture war on COVID, including hiring anti-vax surgeon general, banning businesses from checking vaccine status, sued the CDC for attempting to regulating cruising, etc. He had already pushed through the Don't Save Gay bill, plus anti-protest, anti-drag, anti-book laws. He had already punished multiple private companies, including Disney, for using their freedom of speech.

The only thing that has changed is he's getting a little more national attention. But he's been a full out culture warrior in Florida since at least the summer of 2020.

Uhhh .... And "yet" his popularity has taken a nosedive since then. This isn't really that hard to understand, is it?
I understand. But it doesn't mean shit. He was doing the same crap, except running against Trump, prior to the election and still won in a landslide. And he'll be there is reshape the state after 1938 Germany for the next 3.5 years.

It does seem to me like at least some of his decline is associated with his clear focus more on his own presidential ambitions than actually governing Florida for Floridians... which would seem to be the entire reason for the "resign to run" that they ditched for him.

Lol, that scene in Birdcage. "Are those boys playing hopscotch?"
I only watch the original with subtitles. I couldn't get through the Birdcage, even though it's practically verbatim. The interactions between the principle characters just isn't there.

I've actually never watched the original, so I'll check it out. I just loved Robin Williams in Birdcage though. He really got to show off his serious and comedic sides.

I voted with the majority on this, but it just seems it's neither to me. It's just a visual word salad of crap. Message? I literally have no clue other than a parade of disconnected stereotypes.
