Poll: Remote Desktop management Solution - VNC vs MS Terminal Service/Remote desktop ?

Ok, looks like it'll work, but that's an ActiveX control and probably sucks as bad as the Java VNC console.

It's actually very cool. Just pop open IE and plug in "www.mydomain.com/tsweb" into the address bar. You'll get a normal login like you're used to with the TS Client, and the ability to scale to full screen or any resolution of your choice.

It seems to have issues with different IE versions though. It's completely non-functional on IE6.1, and runs the best on IE 5.5.

I can't fiddle around with it much since I don't have IIS installed on the machine I'm posting from, and I don't have a win2k cd handy. But I'm pretty sure using IIS and the tsweb control you can log into a Win2k Pro machine.

You sure? i always thought that TSAC only enables Terminal Services to be used via IE but I never understood it to actually host Remote Sessions.

so THAT'S what happened. 🙂 I wondered about that. I used to have TSAC working well on my Win2k Server. then one day my clients couldn't access it anymore. i must have been when i upgraded IE.

red hat 9 comes with a RDP client that can connect to MS TS, i have done this

that means it should also connect to an XP/Server 2003 RDP, but i haven't tried that, yet

i use RDP everyday to access Server 2003 RDP, XP RDP and W2K Server TS (admin mode)

it is good

Heh. Yeh. Took me a bit to finger that out too. I backed off the 6.X installs and took it back to 5.5 and magically my TSweb clients were able to connect to the TS servers.

I'm sure I could fiddle around a bit with the advanced options in 6.X and get it to work, just never had the desire.

So, it looks like RDP host is only available on XP/Server OS

What option does one have if they don't want to use VNC on win2k workstation ?

Does MS has a solution for Remote Desktop management for win2k pro - i.e. both the host & client are running win2k pro workstation ?

WinConnect.

here's a commercial product that allows you to change your Win2K Pro to a RDP Server.

I haven't looked through any manuals yet, but do you know what ports that program uses?

Won't netmeeting solve all your problems? It has a Remote Desktop thing and works really fine. Just gotta fiddle around with the settings.
