I am just curious to see what is the main reason that overwhelming majority of PC users won't ever switch to Mac even though it is supposedly more stable and less of headache to use. For the last few years Apple had try to increase its market share with very appealing machines but so far the progress is very slow so what is needed to happen for Apple to reach to something like 15-20% of the market?

I don't like Macs, period. The GUI just doesn't work as well for me as the Windows GUI does. There's probably other reasons why I don't like Macs but that would be my main complaint. I can use a Mac if necessary, but I'm much more comfortable with a Windows machine.

Not so much reasons against, as a lack of reasons for.

I don't have stability problems with any of my PCs. And they're certainly not a headache to operate.

All of the above except number 4. I don't hate Mac's. In fact they're pretty impressive. If I could ever afford one I'd run it as my home studio computer for recording. But I'll never completely abandon PC's

I wish I could have voted for many of those. Price, used to PC, hate MACs, less software.... I think the MAC GUI looks very outdated. PC seems to be the standard, but some people force themselves to use MACs to go against convention. It's a common behavior among computer geeks.

Price is the biggest one. If Apple was selling iMacs for $399 right next to the cheap Dell machines at CompUSA, they'd sell more computers.

90% of people don't care if they can build thier own, don't play a lot of games, don't care enoguh to hate any particular computer vendor, and don't care about the performance difference between a 1ghz G4 and 3ghz P4 for thier email and web browsing.

for me, one of the main reasons is that macs only have about 3% of the software available on pcs, i like to use software on my computer and i like to have choices about what skus i can pick from.

1. Price
2. Upgradeability
3. User interface
4. I have yet to benifit from a company that tries to make everything proprietary.
5. I just hate macs.
6. Software availability.
7. I like having 5 buttons on my trackball, the more the merrier.

Edit: If i could afford it i would have a mac just for the sake of having something different. Maby watch movies on those hugh widescreen LCD's they are shipping with now. Or one of the oversized laptops.

For the box builder and average user you can't beat a pc..and most of us are average users. PC's are also the industry standard in many industrial app's ie the transportation industry..for fault logger interrogation and fault isolation the pc laptop is the standard..dealing with propulsion/APSE and Automatic Train Control systems the pc is the industry standard world wide.

I use both Mac and PC, here's what i like about each one.

Reasons i like working on the Mac:
- Some software that we use is available on it that isn't on the PC. There are similar software that we can purchase for the PC but it doesn't do as good a job for the tasks we throw at it.
- Printing over the network is faster.
- Color is easier to calibrate and keep consistent on the Mac.

Reasons i like working on the PC:
- It *is* much more stable than the Mac especially under heavy load.
- The user interface is just a lot more intuitive and efficient IMHO.
- Having functional "right click" menu's just adds to that efficiency (e.g. right click menu's + keyboard shortcuts is a definitely plus for me).

Given similar hardware specs and doing realworld tasks, the PC is for me for its overall efficiency and user friendliness.

On the other hand, I do love the Mac - but it's just not enough of a workhorse as i'd like it to be for the price i pay and the work i do.

Too pricey for me,
Software,
Games even though I don't play many,
Less upgradeable,

I don't hate Mac's but they are too pricey for me.

M pc's all run stable and have no problems.
