Poll: Reasonable bandwidth usage

I'm not a fan of the midnight-midnight cap. I would much prefer a monthly bandwidth limit. That way if I want to go nuts and download a bunch of stuff (legal stuff like Linux ISOs and cracked versions of photoshop, wait, I mean...) then I could. If I hit the limit then I could be charged to my account for more.

You know you can change the MAC right? My friend's apartment has free T1 net or something but only 1gb per day. Let's just say there were days when the MAC was changed nearly a dozen times.

60GB bandwidth is enough. 30GB is too little in this day and age. There's sooo much stuff to download!!!!!!

I don't think that there is 60 GB of legal data on the internet.

Depends on what is considered acceptable use. Our policy was that as long as your activities didn't negatively impact the net experience of those around you, then anything was ok. This meant game servers, web servers, ftp servers, etc were all ok, provided they didn't see extreme usage.

In this situation, I had 22 player Day of Defeat server running and that alone was easily going through 4GB/day. Since the PacketShaper rules had 15Mb/s dedicated bandwidth for gaming, and this wasn't negatively impacting anyone, it was ok.

Add in my usage, and I was doing anywhere from 4-40GB/day. I'll grant that at the 40GB/day mark it probably was excessive, but if the network can handle it, the bandwidth is divided nicely, and the PacketShaper rules are functioning then 10GB/day shouldn't be out of the question.

If bandwidth is at a premium then its a whole different ball game.

I think limmits are bad.

With current Bandwidth costs .. I'd say 7-10GB per day is fair .. though perhaps a bit more liberal than most places.

THe reason I posted this is as follows:

My college has the following policies:

1gb transfer midnight-midnight (up and down)
The ONLY ports not blocked are 80 and 22.
