I cancelled my Tivo service a few months ago. I was going to sell the unit on Ebay, but my little digicam wouldn't work, so I never listed it. Now I want to use it again.

I'm able to either (A) put it on a monthly plan for $12.95 per month, or (B) get service for as long as I keep it for a one time fee of $299.

Decisions, decisions. . .

Help me!

:)

monthly... that way when your ass gets thrown in jail for piracy (i know you're not pirating, you know you're not pirating, but does the mpaa know that???), your money isn't wasted =P

I want the program data from the Tivo home office. What's this hacking you speak of, and can I get the programming data if I don't pay for it, i.e., hack it?

Lifetime's winning.

I can't find a way to get free Tivo guide data. Everything I'm reading says I can't, and I don't want to screw Tivo anyway, because I like them.

I'm almost ready to just give them the $299. The break even point is about 24 months. As long as the electronics inside the Tivo continue to work for that time, and then some, I'll be fine. (I've already experienced hard drive failure once, and I dealt with that by upgrading from 30 hours to 63.)

Monthly, something better will come along in a couple of years and from what I remember, you can't transfer between units.
