How do you think the highways would drive (assume during rush hour) if everybody on the road drove the same way you do. For some reason, I think the overall effect would be worse if everybody drove more like me.

Edit: Do the above results show that the average ATOT driver is better then your average joe, or is it more likely that we have unrealistic views of how good of drivers we are?

I don't know about the highways, but if everyone drove like me on the side roads I'd get pissed off a lot less at those old people going 25 :(

If everyone drove like me on the freeway, I'd never get stuck behind someone going 60 in the fast lane, and I'd never get stuck in a traffic jam cause everyone had to slow down and look at the guy with a flat tire on the side of the road.

I said +3. It's funny because I think most people on the road suck. Most people think the same way. But most people here think they're really good. Good God humans are stupid aren't they?

In my world:
- Everyone could 1-pass parallel park like me, even if they have a truck.
- Rubbernecking would be a thing of the past
- Driving any less than 60mph on the freeway would be unheard of
- When you SIGNAL to get into a lane, someone will let you through
- You wouldn't have to worry about everyone FREAKING THE HELL OUT when the road gets a little wet.

So yeah, it would be better.

MY reasoning why it would be better:
1: I'm passive to traffic
2: I look well ahead
3: I try to keep moving, I don't try to get as close to the person infront of me as possible

I'm not saying I'm a perfect driver, there's alot I can improve on. I'm just better than the average.

Edit:
my meaning of passive: I don't feel as if I need to be ahead of the guy infront of me when he's behind someone else. I do try and smooth out stop and go cycles.

People would actually listen to the radio like I do and would have the common sense to get off the interstate when the traffic report guy tells you that there's a wreck up ahead at an area where wrecks take FOREVER to unclog. I like the fact that it seems like the vast majority of the lemmings apparently don't have radios installed in their cars and just charge on ahead into the inevitable standstill whilst I jump off early and beat the stampede to the side roads to still make it home in a relatively timely manner.

Highways?? I guess I drive pretty conservatively. I actually look over my shoulder when changing lanes... ever since I almost changed lanes onto a Jetta.

Non highways is another story. Ask radioactiveballpoint how I drift when pulling onto main roads and scare him. He thinks I don't know what I'm doing. It's not my fault I have an open differential and crappy General tires.

You think So Cal is bad? Try Sacramento. Traffic gets visibly more sane when you go 20 miles away.

i am sure there is something i do that bothers others, but i think it would improve.

i don't drive slow in the fast lane
i don't STAY in the fast lane even if i am driving fast.
i signal when i switch lanes
i wave at people or thank them by lights if they let me in, or are courteous
i keep my distance
i don't use my high beams

If everyone drove like me we'd all be crashing into each other. I need the slow pokes to dodge and weave around.

While the highways would not be perfect if everyone drove like me, at least everyone would be COURTEOUS, and that's a pretty good start...

That includes:

Letting people in the passing (left) lane actually be able to pass if they are driving faster than me

Using turn signals before you turn

Letting people in when they put on their turn signal

Not stopping in the middle of the highway to figure out if they missed their exit

Not driving around with my high beams on, blinding everyone else but myself

Looking before changing lanes

Not blaming others when I make a mistake

I see too many people driving around like God gave them the right to police the highways, getting into the fast lane and going 5 mph under the speed limit, not looking where they are going, blaming others when it was they who made the mistake, etc.

Basically treat other people the way you want to be treated.

I do those things too, except that sometimes, especially when I'm behind people not going over the speed limit, I tend to drive quite aggressively. I was going to pass somebody on a double yellow doing 25 in a 35 the other night but was too far behind the head person to pull it off. I did, however, honk at them when I finally did get past. THat was after she slightly ran over the curb. If you're learning how to drive go in an empty neighborhood, not in front of me

No one would rubberneck thats for danm sure.
Not much can be done about my stretch of freeway short of making it wider. There are just too many people for our roads here....

That's not really a very good solution because then even more people would drive on the roads because they are now able to handle them. Traffic would be just as congested as before the roads were widened.

Some type of convenient mass transportation would be a better solution. (The key word being convenient)
